    • PURPOSE:To obtain a metal matrix fiber reinforced composite excellent in heat resistane, friction wear properties or the like by mixing, as reinforcing fibers, mixed fibers blended with a specified ratio of inorganic fibers having high hardness and potassium titanate fibers into a metal matrix. CONSTITUTION:As reinforcing fibers, mixed fibers in which the ratio (by volume) of inorganic fibers having high hardness to potassium titanate fibers is regulated to (10/90) to (50/50) are dispersed into a metal matrix. As the representative of the potassium titanate fibers in the mixed fibers as the reinforcing fibers for the composite, the crystalline fibers of potassium hexatitanate (K2Ti6O13) are given, and whisker-shaped fine fibers having about 0.1 to 5mum fibrous size in diameter and about 10 to 200 aspect ratio are preferably used. As the inorganic fibers having high hardness and mixed into the potassium titanate fibers, the ones having about >=6Moh's hardness are preferably used, and, for example, alumina having >=9Moh's hardness or the like are given. As the metal to form a matrix, for example, an aluminum allay or the like are given, and the volume ratio of the fibers in the composite dispersed into the metal matrix is regulated to about 5 to 45%.
