    • PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a joint, by holding this steel plates, which should be subjected to spot welding, between bar-shaped electrodes to apply a current generating expulsion and surface flash and applying a current generating no expulsion and surface flash after cooling them and utilizing the generation of expulsion and surface flash to reduce the cavity and increase the diameter of a nugget. CONSTITUTION:>=2 thin steel plates 2, 3, and 4 are held between bar-shaped electrodes 1 and 1', and pressure is set so as to obtain an optional pressure P, and a current I1 is flowed for a time T1. The proportion between the current I1 and the time T1 is so considered that expulsion and surface flash is generated once or more as Ex1 and Ex2-Exn in the time T1, and the time T1 is shortened for the larger I1 and is lengthened for the smaller I1. An optional cease time CT is given while keeping the pressure P, and continuously, a current I2 in the latter stage is flowed for a time T2. The current I2 is set to a current value, where expulsion and surface flash is not generated in the time T2, but it is unnecessary to set the current I2 to a current value smaller than that of the current I1. After all of current flowing is terminated, a holding time HT of electrodes is selected and set optionally.

    • PURPOSE:To perform joggled lap jointing in an extremely small number of proc- esses by forming a stiffened suspension rib at the upper part of a quarter panel step part where a roof panel base is brought into contact, and suppressing residual stress due to thermal strain low through a cooling jig. CONSTITUTION:At the joint part of the roof panel 1 of the quarter panel 2 of a motorcar, an inward projecting type stiffened suspension rib 12 is formed in the length wise direction of the panel 2 by a press, etc. Then, an inside cooling jig 16 made of copper is inserted from the guide hole 17 of a roof-side inner panel 13 welded to the inner side 14 of the panel 2, and the tip in a conformable shape with the step part 10 of the panel 2 is guided by the step part 9 and rib 12 to abut on the step part 10 properly. Then, the panel 1 is engaged with the step part 10 and an outside cooling jig 18 is equipped externally; and the jigs 16 and 18 are clamped in interlocking relation to secure the joint part 7 and its circumference and also to bring them into close contact in a heat absorbing state. Thus, hard welding 11, etc., is carried out at the lower edge of the panel 1 and the step part 9 of the panel 2.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain the titled controller which secures the quality of arc spot welding stably by measuring radiant heat generated by an arc during the fusion of a body to be welded through a temperature sensor provided below the body to be welded, and stopping the arc when the measured temperature exceeds a set value. CONSTITUTION:Two bodies 1 (1a and 1b) to be jointed together by arc spot welding are fixed by a jig 3. At a welding point, a welding torch 4 is arranged; one terminal of an arc welding power source 5 is connected to the torch 4 through a controller 6, and the other is connected to the bodies 1 (or jig 3) to be welded. At an arc spot welding point, the noncontacting type temperature sensor 7 is installed symmetrically with the torch 4 about the bodies 1 at specific distance from the bodies 1. Then, arc spot welding is carried out to fuse the bodies 1 and the radiant heat generated by said fusion is conducted to the sensor side 7, so the temperature at that time is measured by the sensor 7. When the temperature rises above the set value, the arc welding is stopped to produce an invariably constant fused body 2.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain defect-free sound nuggets by superposing two sheets of metallic plates allowing a clearance to exist therebetween, and maintaining the welding current value in the press-sticking period smaller than the current value in the melt sticking period. CONSTITUTION:Metallic plates 1, 1' to be joined are sandwiched by electrodes 2, 2' while a clearance is allowed to exist therebetween. Pressure is exerted between the electrodes 2 and 2', and the pressurizing force attains a set value, the welding current for the 1st stage is run for a predetermined time (press sticking period). The weld tme is the time enough for the clearance between the plates 1, 1' to be eliminated and the plates to be press stuck thoroughly. The welding current is set at the value smaller than the welding current in the later deposition period. When the clearance between the plates 1 and 1' is eliminated and both plates are press stuck thoroughly and fit well to each other, the welding current required for ordinary deposition, that is, the current larger than the welding current for the 1st stage is run for the melt sticking period alone, whereby the plates 1 and 1' are melt stuck to each other.

    • PURPOSE:To perform stable joining of superposed plates and efficient arc spot welding by forming a plug hole to the upper plate of the superposed plates by the current having a reversed polarity then passing the current having a straight polarity and filling the plug hole with the molten metal of a wire. CONSTITUTION:The side of a welding wire 3 of a consumable electrode let off from a welding wire reel 5 is connected to a positive electrode and the side of materials 7 to be welded which are superposed plates consisting of an upper plate 1 and a lower plate 2 is connected to a negative pole and the current having a reversed polarity is passed thereto by using change-over terminals 6, 8 to form a plug hole 4 to the plate 1 in the initial period of conducting electricity in the stage of subjecting the materials 7 to be welded to arc spot welding by a DC arm welding power source 9 using said wire 3. The current having the straight polarity to make the wire 3 side negative and the material 7 side positive is passed to melt the wire 3 and fill the hole 4 with the molten metal of the wire in the late period of conducting electricity. The stable joining of the superposed plates is efficiently accomplished irrespectively of the presence or absence of the space between the plates 1 and 2.

    • PURPOSE:To expand the tolerance range of positional distortion at the setting of plate members in the welding method for three-lapped coupling obtained by piling up an intermediate plate and an upper plate both of which have welding holes on an lower plate by forming said welding holes like ellipses which are intersected each other at right angles. CONSTITUTION:Elliptical welding holes 12a, 13a are formed on the intermediate plate 12 and the upper plate 13 by punching or the like and these holes are intersected each other at right angles at the piling up of the lower plate 11, intermediate plate 12 and upper plate 13. In the plan view under said piled-up state, the plates 12, 13 can be shifted vertically and horizontally by the length of longitudinal directions of holes 12a, 13a respectively. Even if the plates 12, 13 are shifted by said manner, the welding position of the plate 11 is not changed. After piling and positioning of the plates 12, 13 on the plate 11, arc spot welding is performed from the hole 13a in the direction of the plate 11, so that the plates 11-13 are connected in one united body.
