    • PURPOSE:To provide an internal combustion engine of the type giving swirl to mixture in combustion chamber, in which a multiplicity of recesses or projections are fromed in the inner wall surface of combustion chamber so as to produce micro turbulences and thereby to combust mixture more effectively. CONSTITUTION:When mixture is introduced into combustion chamber 4 via suction valve 6, swirl is given to the mixture since suction port 5 is shaped in a helical form. This swirl of mixture is maintained during the following compression cycle without being attenuated so much, and then swirling mixture is ignited effectively by ignition plug 9. In such as internal combustion engine, a multiplicity of projections 10 having a rectangular cross section are formed integrally on the inner wall surface of cylinder head 3, with equal intervals from each other. With such an arrangement, said swirling mixture is given with turbulence at its peripheral portion in compression cycle by the projections 10 and thus micro turbulences are developed on the inner peripheral surface of cylinder head 3, so that mixture can be combusted completely.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the heat loss of a particle trapper for collecting and removing the exhaust carbon of a diesel engine, by blowing a flame from the interior of the trapper and effecting appropriate combustion control. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas from the cylinders of a diesel engine flows into particle trappers through a pipe 12. The number of the trappers is two. The trappers are installed in a right and a left positions. Exhaust passages are shifted by opening or closing change-over valves 24A, 24B. When the valve 24A is open, the exhaust gas flows outwards from the central part of a cylindrical filter 18A, as shown by arrows A, B, so that the exhaust gas is released after it is removed of particles by the filter 18A. A burner 26B is provided at the central part of the side of a filter 18B, into which the exhaust gas does not enter. Fuel and air are supplied from a fuel pump 34 and an air pump 40 through change-over valves 32, 38 so that the fuel is burned. The burner 26B is controlled to optimum by an exhaust back pressure signal 62, the inlet temperature of a thermosensitive section 70B, the outlet temperature of a thermosensitive section 74B and an incineration time signal.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a combustion chamber of internal combustion engine, in which a multiplicity of recesses are formed in the top surface of piston or inner wall surface of cylinder head where a squish area is defined, so as to give turbulence to uncombusted mixture that is drawn into the squish area when piston moves downward, whereby it is enabled to increase combustion speed. CONSTITUTION:A multiplicity of recesses 12 are formed in the top surface 2a of piston 2 and flat bottom wall surface 9 of projection 8 forming a first squish area A, and similarly, a multiplcity of recesses 12 are formed also in inner wall surface 3a of cylinder head 3 forming a second squish area B together with projection 10. With such an arrangement, when piston 2 comes to the top dead point in compression cycle, squish flow with turbulence caused by recesses 12 issues from both of the first and the second squish areas A, B into combustion chamber 4 respectively in the direction shown by arrows C and D. Resultantly, swirl around a horizontal axis is developed in combutsion chamber 4 by the squish flow C, D, as shown by arrow W in the drawing, so that combustion speed can be increased considerably.

    • PURPOSE:To improve atomizing and mixing characteristics and to avoid the variation in the fuel feeding rate by providing the injection port of the fuel injection valve to the venturi part and injecting the fuel into the range of the suction passage where the flow speed of air is the fastest. CONSTITUTION:At the variable venturi carburetor with the fuel injection valve 7, the injection port 8 of the fuel injection valve 7 is provided at the position that faces the head part 9 of the suction piston 4, that is the venturi part 6. Being thus constituted, the cross section area of the venturi part 6 changes corresponding to the rate of the suction air to maintain the flow speed of the suction air at the venturi part 6 throughout the whole range from the low suction air rate area to the high suction air rate area almost constant. The flow speed of the suction air is the highest at the venturi part 6 in the suction passage 1. Therefore, the fuel from the injection port 8 is injected into the high-speed air flow and the particles of injected fuel become minute, so that the atomizing condition is improved and the uniform mixture of air can be obtained throughout the whole operation range.
