    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member for a wet clutch, which sliding member is excellent in close contact ability, and has wear resistance, and has low attackability against mating members, and has a high frictional characteristic and an excellent μ-v characteristic under wet conditions. SOLUTION: The sliding member for the wet clutch has a base material and an amorphous hard carbon film, which is integrally formed on the surface of the base material and a part of the surface of which serves as a sliding surface for sliding under the wet conditions and contains 0.1-50 at% H. Preferably, the hardness of the amorphous hard carbon film is at least 800 HV and the surface roughness of the sliding surface is 0.3-10 μm Rz. Preferably, the sliding member for the wet clutch is used in either a wet clutch and a wet brake or a starting clutch and a lock-up clutch used in an automatic transmission, and the mating material sliding on the amorphous hard carbon film is a paper series friction material containing fiber components. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure frictional force under actual environment where frictional force is developed. SOLUTION: A measuring hole 23 is provided to the second member 1 held in frictional relation to a first member so as to be bored in the frictional surface 8 of the second member 1, a detection piece 26 is attached to the measuring hole 23 through a load detector 25, the frictional surface of the detection piece 26 is arranged on the frictional surface 8 of the second member 1 so as to provide a contact preventing gap between the detection piece 26 and the peripheral surface of the measuring hole 23, the rigidity against the pressing of the first member to the detection piece is set to the same degree as that in the second piece 26, the frictional surface of the detection piece 26 displaced by the friction with the first member is moved in parallel, and the dynamical characteristics and thermal characteristics of the detection piece 26 are made the same to those of the second member 1. The frictional force developed when the first member is frictionally pressed t the detection piece 26 is detected by the load detector 25.
