    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing and drying machine which has an improved feature in starting up a drying operation with a heat pump by an energy-saving and compact heat storage means.
      SOLUTION: A washing and drying machine, in which, during a drying process, a heat pump unit is activated to blow into a water tank the air heated by a condenser, the damp air containing the moisture evaporated from laundry in a rotary drum is discharged from the water tank, the discharged air is cooled to be dehumidified by an evaporator, and then the air is heated by the condenser before being circulated again, is provided with a phase-change heat storage means 26 which stores heat by becoming a supersaturated liquid when exposed to the case of a compressor 12, and which releases heat by becoming solid. The heat from the compressor in operation can be transmitted to the phase-change heat storage means and stored there through its phase change from the solid state into the liquefied state. When the drying process thereafter is started, the phase-change heat storage means undergoes a phase change again by receiving a stimulus from a stimulus application means 31 to release the heat stored through its solidification in order to heat the compressor.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine including a suspension capable of exerting desired damping force by forming a magnetic circuit free from the leakage of a magnetic field so as to stabilize the viscosity change of a magnetic viscous fluid.SOLUTION: A suspension, which vertically supports a water tub in a housing in a vibration-isolated manner, includes: a coil spring; a cylinder; a shaft reciprocating in the cylinder; a magnetic field generator disposed around the shaft with a space therebetween; a magnetic viscous fluid filled into the space; sealing members sealing the upper and lower ends of the space; and bearing members pivotally supporting the shaft in a reciprocable manner. The magnetic field generator includes a coil and yokes disposed at the upper and lower parts of the coil. When the coil is energized, a magnetic circuit is formed through the members, such as the shaft, the yokes and the cylinder which are disposed around the coil, thereby applying a magnetic field to the magnetic viscous fluid. The sealing members or the bearing members or both of the members adjacent to the magnetic circuit are formed of non-magnetic material.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing and drying machine which can suppress resonance of a connection pipe connecting a compressor and an evaporator or a condenser of a heat pump to dry laundry with respect to natural frequencies of the connection pipe.
      SOLUTION: A hose 43 capable of putting in/out fluid is provided along the connection pipe 41a connecting the compressor 39 and the evaporator 36 of the heat pump 42. When the natural frequency of the connection pipe 41a is within the operation range of the compressor 39, the natural frequency of the connection pipe 41a is shifted to the outside of the operation range of the compressor 39 by flowing a fluid into the hose 43 to increase mass of the connection pipe 41a. Accordingly, when the natural frequency of the connection pipe 41a being the outside of the operation range of the compressor 39 is within the operation range of the compressor 39, the natural frequency of the connection pipe 41a is prevented from being within the operation range of the compressor 39 by flowing the fluid out from the hose 43 to reduce the mass of the connection pipe 41a.

A magnetic viscous fluid which changes its viscosity when a magnetic field is applied thereto by the magnetic field generator, and gas are enclosed in the storage part.
