    • The present invention relates to method and arrangement to minimize excess fiber cable in large-scale point-to-point fiber installations, between equipment ODF, AE located in different equipment cabinets 1, 2.     • Methods and devices for connecting a terminal (15) to one of a plurality of service providing networks (3.1, 3.2) through a broadband remote access server (17) are described. In one method an access node (13) is connected between an access point (1) of terminals and the access server. The access node includes a VLAN handling unit having a memory for storing identifications of Ethernet frames transmitted in a first VLAN (43) including the access node and a local virtual router function unit (49) of the access server and in second VLANs (41.1, 41.2). Each of the second VLANs include the access node and one of the virtual router function units (47.1, 47.2) of the access server for each of the service providing networks. A control unit in the access node commands the handling unit to transmit frames from a new user device that has connected itself to the access point into the first virtual local area network. The control unit also receives information from the access server in respect of routing of frames and it commands the handling unit to transmit frames from a user device which is connected to the access point and the frames from which are transmitted into the first VLAN to be instead transmitted into one of the second VLANs as given by information received from the access server, the frames thereby being transmitted to the access server (19) of the respective service providing network.

    • A method and apparatus for establishing a Quality of Service QoS in an access network (404, 406) for a multimedia session between a home network (402) and a remote device (400) located outside the home network. At least one of the remote device and the home network is connected to the access network. When a session invite message is received from the remote device for device discovery in the home network, a default QoS is enforced in the access network. When a session re-invite message is received from the remote device for media communication with a selected home device (402a) in the home network, the QoS requirements are determined for the media communication based on session parameters exchanged during the setup of the media communication. An updated QoS is then enforced for the session in the access network based on the determined QoS requirements.
