    • There is described a method for optimising the distribution of data objects between caches in a cache domain of a resource limited network. User requests for data objects are received at caches in the cache domain. A notification is sent from each cache at which a request is received to a cache manager. The notification reports the user request and identifies the requested data object. At the cache manager, object information including the request frequency of each requested data object and the locations of the caches at which the requests were received is collated and stored. At the cache manager, objects for distribution within the cache domain are identified on the basis of the object information. Instructions are sent from the cache manager to the caches to distribute data objects stored in those caches between themselves. The objects are classified into classes according to popularity, the classes including a high popularity class comprising objects which should be distributed to all caches in the cache domain, a medium popularity class comprising objects which should be distributed to a subset of the caches in the cache domain, and a low popularity class comprising objects which should not be distributed.

    • A method of delivering packets from a radio access network to a user terminal. The method comprises establishing a radio access bearer for transporting data to the user terminal from a radio layer control entity responsible for constructing downlink radio frames. Within the radio access network, an IP traffic flow destined for said user terminal is observed and a delivery priority determined for the IP traffic flow taking into account a user application to which the traffic relates. The delivery priority is dynamically adjusted in dependence upon the desired arrival time or delivery rate of packets within the IP traffic flow at the user terminal. With respect to other downlink user traffic to be sent over the radio interface, packets of the IP traffic flow are scheduled for transmission to the user terminal over the established radio access bearer, and or the scheduling weight of radio frames of the established radio access bearer adjusted, in accordance with the current delivery priority. The method further comprises, upstream of said radio layer control entity, carrying out a pre-scheduling of packets of said IP traffic flow with respect to other IP traffic flows.

    • A method and apparatus for providing data to a network terminal. A network node receives information relating to a first instance of a client running at the network terminal. Using the information, the network node concurrently runs a second instance of the client that emulates the first instance. Using the second instance, the network node generates a request for data required by the first instance. Before receiving a request for data generated by the first instance, the network node sends the request for data required by the first instance to a remote server and receives a response that includes there quired data. The required data is then sent to the network terminal. The advantage of this is that the request for data required is generated before the network node receives a request from the network terminal. This allows the request to be handled more quickly.

    • A method is provided which introduces user plane caching over an interface between a first node in a radio access network and a second node in a core network. The method comprises, at the first node: receiving (S1) first uplink tunnel parameters relating to the second node, selecting (S2) first downlink tunnel parameters relating to the first node, sending (S3, S4) the first uplink and downlink tunnel parameters to a cache node designated to the first node, receiving (S5, S6) second uplink and downlink tunnel parameters relating to the cache node, and sending (S7) the second downlink tunnel parameters to the second node. This enables establishment of a second tunnel between the cache node and the second node based on the first uplink tunnel parameters and the second downlink tunnel parameters. The method further comprises establishing (S8) a first tunnel between the first node and the cache node based on the second uplink tunnel parameters and the first downlink tunnel parameters, sending (S9) uplink user plane data to the second node through the first and second tunnels via the cache node, and receiving (S10) downlink user plane data from the second node through the second and first tunnels via the cache node. This enables user plane data between the first and second nodes to be cached at the cache node.
