    • There is disclosed a method, implemented in a wireless transmitter associated with license assisted access wireless communications between the wireless transmitter and a wireless receiver. The licensed assisted access wireless communications comprise communications using both a licensed wireless spectrum associated with a primary cell and an unlicensed wireless spectrum associated with a secondary cell. The method comprises determining whether a secondary cell channel between the wireless transmitter and the wireless receiver is idle, the secondary cell channel being associated with the unlicensed wireless spectrum of the secondary cell; and if the secondary cell channel is idle, subsequently transmitting a confirmation signal from the wireless transmitter to the wireless receiver via the secondary cell, the confirmation signal alerting the wireless receiver to the commencement of valid data transmissions from the wireless transmitter via the secondary cell. There are also disclosed further related methods and devices.

    • Systems and methods relating to Listen before Talk (LBT) procedures suitable for, e.g., License Assisted Access (LAA) to an unlicensed frequency spectrum or Long Term Evolution Unlicensed (LTE-U) are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a node of a cellular communications network comprises performing a LBT procedure for an observed channel in an unlicensed frequency spectrum. The LBT procedure defers at least one Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) slot such that the LBT procedure concludes at or near a desired starting point for a transmission. The at least one CCA slot comprises at least one of a first CCA slot of the LBT procedure, one or more intermediate CCA slots of the LBT procedure, and a final CCA slot of the LBT procedure. The method further comprises performing the transmission on the observed channel upon completion of the LBT procedure.

    • In one aspect, the teachings herein describe an enhanced Reference Signal, RS, that is designed to be available for transmission in any symbol of a subframe. The enhanced RS may be an enhanced Sounding Reference Signal, SRS, or an enhanced DeModulation Reference Signal, DMRS. The enhanced RS provides an advantageous mechanism for channel capture in Listen- Before-Talk, LBT, scenarios, because subsequent to performing a successful Clear Channel Assessment, CCA, a node can begin transmitting the enhanced RS, to thereby capture the channel. The node can then transition into an actual data transmission on the channel according to whatever timing constraints are associated with the data transmission. In at least one embodiment, the enhanced RS is used for capturing an uplink channel on an LTE carrier operated in unlicensed spectrum, as part of a License Assisted Access, LAA, configuration.
