    • Systems and methods relating to Listen before Talk (LBT) procedures suitable for, e.g., License Assisted Access (LAA) to an unlicensed frequency spectrum or Long Term Evolution Unlicensed (LTE-U) are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a node of a cellular communications network comprises performing a LBT procedure for an observed channel in an unlicensed frequency spectrum. The LBT procedure defers at least one Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) slot such that the LBT procedure concludes at or near a desired starting point for a transmission. The at least one CCA slot comprises at least one of a first CCA slot of the LBT procedure, one or more intermediate CCA slots of the LBT procedure, and a final CCA slot of the LBT procedure. The method further comprises performing the transmission on the observed channel upon completion of the LBT procedure.

    • According to some embodiments, a method of determining a modulation coding scheme in a wireless network comprises receiving a CQI index, wherein the CQI index comprises a four-bit value associated with a channel quality of a wireless signal and identifying an entry in a CQI table based on the CQI index. The CQI table comprises: a first contiguous plurality of table entries associated with low SINR, each entry based on a first sampling grid; a second contiguous plurality of table entries associated with medium SINR, each entry based on a second sampling grid; and a third contiguous plurality of table entries associated with high SINR, each entry based on a third sampling grid. The method further comprises determining a modulation coding scheme based on the identified entry in the CQI table and encoding a transmission block according to the determined modulation coding scheme.

    • Systems and methods relating to accurate Channel State Information (CSI) measurements for a License Assisted Secondary Cell (LA SCell) are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a wireless device enabled to operate in a cellular communications network according to a carrier aggregation scheme using both a licensed frequency band and an unlicensed frequency band operates to determine whether a Channel State Information Reference Symbol (CSI-RS) transmission from a LA SCell of the wireless device is present in a subframe, where the LA SCell is in an unlicensed frequency band. The wireless device further operates to process a CSI-RS measurement for the LA SCell for the subframe upon determining that a CSI-RS transmission from the LA SCell is present in the subframe and refrain from processing a CSI-RS measurement for the LA SCell for the subframe upon determining that a CSI-RS transmission from the LA SCell is not present in the subframe.
