摘要： A process and apparatus for treating a hide (10) with a fluid. The hide (10) is stretched longitudinally and/or laterally. In one embodiment the hide (10) passes from upstream rollers (14) to downstream rollers (15) rotating at a higher speed to stretch the hide (10) longitudinally. Left hand rollers (16, 17) and right hand rollers (18, 19) can be angled to the line of travel (20) so that the hide is stretched laterally. In a second embodiment the hide (10) is clamped between upper and lower edges (45u, 45l and 46u, 46l) and the lines of clamping are moved apart, longitudinally by separating sets (40, 41) of clamping means and/or laterally by arranging the lines of clamping at an acute angle alpha to the centre line (20) and increasing that angle towards 90 DEG . Liquid is sprayed onto the underside of the hide (10) while stretched through manifold (31) having nozzles (32).

摘要： A target (10) for providing coded data readable by an imaging apparatus (30). Location marking means (20) enable location of the target by the imaging apparatus preparatory to an imaging operation, the location marking means having high visibility characteristics e.g. being of retroreflective material (11) to enable identification of the location marking means against a background. Code marking regions (13c-14c) of annular shape include circumferentially disposed code markings (12) containing coded data which are imaged by the imaging apparatus to enable recovery of the coded data from the target. The location marking means (20) is located generally centrally of the code marking regions (13a-14c) so that identification of the location marking means also locates the centre of the code marking regions. The location marking means (20) includes at least one concentric annular region (22) to enable fine location of the centre. The code marking regions (13a-14c) are rotationally dispersed relative to the centre.

摘要： A head washing apparatus has a head support (20) which supports the animal head (15) so that the muzzle is directed upwardly. A plurality of nozzles (16, 17) direct water under pressure in a plurality of directions onto the animal head (15) so that water is directed into upwardly opening orifices (18). Head turning means (30) turns the head support (20) in increments relative to the nozzles (16, 17) so that water is directed onto the head (15) and into the orifices (18) by the nozzles while the head is in different orientations relative to the nozzles (16, 17). Conveyor means (24) conveys the head support (20) to and from the head washing station. The nozzles (16, 17) are mounted by a carriage (50) which tracks the movement of the head (15).
