    • The invention is generally accomplished by providing a method of chemical sensitization comprising providing a silver halide emulsion, and adding to the silver halide emulsion aqueous solid particle dispersion of a chemical sensitizing agent having a water and organic solvent insolubility (i.e., 50 mg/100 ml or less), and heating said emulsion wherein said chemical sensitizing agent comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of gold compounds represented by Formula I: {AuS.sub.2 X}.sub.n I wherein X is PR.sub.2 (dithiophosphinates), P(OR).sub.2 (dithiophosphates), COR (xanthates), CNR.sub.2 (dithiocarbamates), CR (dithiocarboxylates) R is alkyl or aryl n=1-6, tellurium compounds represented by Formula II: TeL.sub.n X.sub.2 wherein L is thiourea or substituted thiourea, n is 2 or 4, X is Cl, Br, I, OCN, SCN, SeCN, TeCN, or N.sub.3 and Formula IIA ##STR1## wherein X is COR, CSR, CNR.sub.2, CR, CAr, PR.sub.2, P(OR).sub.2, (PR.sub.2).sub.2 N R is alkyl or aryl, and palladium compounds represented by Formula III: PdX.sub.2 (TeR.sub.2).sub.2 wherein X is Cl, Br, I, NCO, NCS, NCSe, NCTe, or N.sub.3 R is alkyl or aryl.

    • A method for controlling pressure-induced fog in a silver bromide photographic material involves surface treatment of the emulsion AgBr grains with thiocyanate and an iodide salt. In particular, a process for making a pressure fog-resistant photographic emulsion includes steps of forming a photographic emulsion containing cubic or cubooctahedral silver bromide grains, surface-treating the AgBr grains with a thiocyanate by adding the thiocyanate to the emulsion, chemically sensitizing the emulsion, maintaining the emulsion at a temperature and for a time sufficient to allow the thiocyanate to react with the grain surfaces, and then surface-treating the AgBr grains with an iodide salt by adding the salt to the emulsion in an amount and under conditions effective to fill in cubic faces of the AgBr grains. The latter step partially or fully converts the AgBr grains to octahedral grains. A photographic element can then be made by coating the emulsion on a suitable base.

    • This invention relates to a photographic element comprising a support and at least two silver halide emulsion layers further comprising, an electron transfer agent releasing compound represented by the formula (I): CAR1—(L)n—ETA  (I) wherein: CAR1 is a carrier moiety which is capable of releasing —(L)n-ETA on reaction with oxidized developing agent; L is a divalent linking group, n is 0, 1 or 2; and ETA is a releasable 1-aryl-3-pyrazolidinone electron transfer agent having a calculated log partition coefficient (c log P) greater than or equal to 2.40 and the total sum of the Hammett sigma(para) values of the substituents on the 1-aryl ring is 0.51 or less, the ETA being bonded to L or CAR1 through either the nitrogen atom in the 2-position or the oxygen attached to the 3-position of the pyrazolidinone ring; and a development accelerator releasing compound represented by the formula (II): CAR2—(SAM)—NX1—NX2X3  (II) wherein: CAR2 is a carrier moiety which is capable of releasing —(SAM)—NX1—NX2X3 on reaction with oxidized developing agent; SAM is a silver absorbable moiety attached to the carrier moiety and is released on reaction with oxidized development agent; and —NX1—NX2X3 is a hydrazine group wherein X1, X2 and X3 are individually hydrogen or a substituent chosen from alkyl, aryl, carbonyl or sulfonyl groups with the proviso that at least one of X1, X2 and X3 is hydrogen.
