SOLUTION: The dobby has a lifting unit furnished with an action member 4 loosely fitting to a main shaft 1 of the dobby, a driving member 8 rotating together with the main shaft 1, the first and second engaging members 10, 11 alternately engaging with the driving member 8 and the action member 4, the first resiliency applying means 19 for applying an elastic force to the first and second engaging means 10, 11, and controlling means 14, 15 to shift the first and second engaging means 10, 11 against the force applied by the first resiliency applying means 19. The force applied by the first resiliency applying means 19 is directly loaded on the first engaging member 10 and indirectly loaded on the second engaging member 11. The controlling means is matched with the shift of the first engaging member against the applied force, and the second engaging member 11 is engaged and held on the second engaging face 84D through the second end face. And a mechanical element 15 independent from the reader moves, resisting to the action of the elastic device, the lever 11 having the catch 113 unconnected with the jamming face.
