    • PURPOSE:To facilitate easy tracking control of a rotary head without using any exclusive fixed head by recording a pilot signal as well as an information signal nearly at the center part in the scanning direction of an oblique track and using the pilot signal in a reproducing mode. CONSTITUTION:Rotary heads 1A and 1B have different azimuth angles, and tracks 4A and 4B of these heads are recorded in a double write mode. The gap width between heads 1A and 1B is larger than the track pitch, and therefore the heads 1A and 1B perform scan over the adjacent tracks. The crosstalk effect of the adjacent tracks can be substantially neglected for the information signal having a high record bit rate owing to the azimuth loss since the adjacent tracks have different azimuth angles. While pilot signals P1-P4 are not attenuated so much by the azimuth loss since the frequencies f1-f4 of those pilot signals are set at a low level respectively and can be reproduced even through the adjacent tracks. Then the traverse speed of a tape 2 is varied in accordance with the difference of outputs of both tracks. Thus the control is possible for tracks.

    • PURPOSE: To facilitate the easy detection of the pilot signal at the time of reproduction as well as the easy erasion of the pilot signal at the time of re- recording, by recording the pilot signal for tracking control and the PCM signal in different regions of the same track.
      CONSTITUTION: A tracking pilot signal AT at a prescribed position equidistant from the end part in the lengthwise direction of each track 15H and independently from the recording region of a PCM signal AP which should be recorded at every second track 15H. At the time of reproduction, a recording track is scanned with a rotary head having a scanning width larger than the track width. Then the tracking control is possible for the rotary head by the reproduction outputs of the pilot signals of both adjacent tracks after scanning a track containing no pilot signal recorded at the prescribed position. Furthermore the frequency of the pilot signal can be increased in case the new information is recorded on the recorded information, and the pilot signal can be easily erased since it has a region different from the PCM signal.

    • PURPOSE:To attain compatibility between devices by recording a pilot signal independently of a digital signal, recording and reproducing a positioning signal having a start edge near the center and much azimuth loss and detecting the pilot signal from an adjacent track. CONSTITUTION:When a signal S22 is applied from a detection circuit 56 at the rising of a switching signal S1', an output signal S24 of an FF57 changes from a high level to a low level, a signal S24 is fed to a switch circuit 25 and the circuit 25 is changed over to a contact (b) side. As a result, a signal having a prescribed potential Vcc is led out of a terminal 58 to an output terminal 26. This signal is fed to a capstan servo system so as to attain tracking control. When the potential Vcc is positive, for example, the tape feeding is quickened via a capstan servo system, the head is moved to the next track corresponding to the own azimuth substantially so as to attain normal tracking operation and when the Vcc is zero, the feeding of the tape slows down and the head is retracted to the track during scanning at present substantially. Thus, the compatibility between devices is attained.
