    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating sensitivity of a plant to herbicides in which sensitivity or resistance of the plant to herbicides can simply and objectively be evaluated in a short period.
      SOLUTION: The method for evaluating sensitivity of the plant to herbicides comprises evaluating sensitivity or resistance of a plant to be examined to herbicides. The method for evaluating sensitivity of the plant comprises a step for applying a herbicide to a sample which is a plant to be examined, a measuring step for measuring the light-emitting amount of the sample after applying the herbicide and an evaluation step for evaluating sensitivity or resistance of the plant to be examined to the herbicide. The evaluation method determines whether the change of autologous light emitting of stem, leaf and roof of the plant with time differ significantly or not according to the presence or absence of the herbicide. According to the present invention, a compound having a herbicidal activity on a specific plant can simply be selected in a short time from among a plurality of compounds to be examined which become candidates for herbicides and the method is useful for development of new herbicides.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism which can degrade an organochlorine compound in a low concentration without needing an injurious substrate, and to provide a method for degrading the organochlorine compound in water or soil with the microorganism.
      SOLUTION: This microorganism for degrading the organochlorine compound is characterized by comprising a microorganism, Ralstonia eutropha H850 (NCIMB13492), belonging to the genus Ralstonia. The microorganism for degrading the organochlorine compound expresses an oxidization enzyme for degrading the organochlorine compound in the absence of a co-metabolizing substrate such as phenol or toluene. The organochlorine compound is preferably a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon compound, especially trichloroethylene (TCE) and/or dichloroethylene (DCE), contained in a polluted environment in a low concentration. The compound is contacted and degraded with the microorganism (Ralstonia eutropha H850) to purify the polluted environment.
