    • The present invention provides such a production process that a low-cost water-absorbent resin having excellent quality can be obtained by reasonable steps in aqueous solution polymerization. The production process for a water-absorbent resin comprises a polymerization setup that includes the steps of: supplying an aqueous solution of a water-soluble unsaturated monomer component including a major proportion of acrylic acid and/or its salt into a polymerization vessel causing shearing action; and then carrying out polymerization, involving crosslinking, of the water-soluble unsaturated monomer and at the same time carrying out fine division of the resultant hydrogel; with the production process being characterized in that the aqueous solution of the water-soluble unsaturated monomer component as supplied into the polymerization vessel has a temperature of not lower than 40° C.

    • A surface crosslinking treatment method of a water-absorbing resin powder is disclosed that can overcome various problems in production encountered in the production of surface crosslinked water-absorbing resin powders on an industrial scale and can produce a water-absorbing resin powder having excellent physical properties without causing deterioration in physical properties of resin. The surface crosslinking treatment method of a water-absorbing resin powder includes adding a surface crosslinking agent to a water-absorbing resin powder and heat treating the mixture, wherein (1) the water-absorbing resin powder after the heat treatment is stirred and cooled under an air flow; (2) the water-absorbing resin powder after the heat treatment is cooled under an air flow, and at the same time, at least a part of fine particles of the water-absorbing resin powder and/or the residual crosslinking agent is removed by the air flow; or (3) the water-absorbing resin powder after the heat treatment is cooled and simultaneously granulated, and preferably an aqueous solution is added to the water-absorbing resin powder at a temperature of 40-100° C. during the cooling treatment.

    • A production method of the present invention is a polyacrylic water-absorbent resin powder production method including the steps of: producing an acrylic monomer solution in which gas is dissolved and/or dispersed; polymerizing the acrylic monomer solution in the absence of a surface active agent or in the presence of not more than 300 ppm of a surface active agent; during or after the step of polymerizing, fragmenting a hydrated gel crosslinked polymer obtained by polymerizing the acrylic monomer solution; and drying by heat the hydrated gel crosslinked polymer thus fragmented, the gas being dissolved and/or dispersed in the acrylic monomer solution by at least one of the methods (a) to (c): (a) applying pressure to the acrylic monomer solution and the gas; (b) creating swirling flows of the acrylic monomer solution and the gas; and (c) introducing the gas with the acrylic monomer solution via fine holes. Accordingly, the production method of the present invention makes it possible to efficiently produce a water-absorbent resin having an excellent water-absorption rate without deteriorating a liquid-absorbent property of a sanitary product or the like.

    • An object of the present invention is to make it possible that: a high-concentration hydrogel sheet, which is suitable for production of high-performance water-absorbent resin particles, is cut efficiently without involving the adhesion to such as cutting-blades; and the subsequent disintegration operation is also successfully carried out; and hydrogel particles excellent in the quality and performances are efficiently produced. As a means of achieving this object, the process according to the present invention for production of hydrogel particles is a process for production of the hydrogel particles 14 from a high-concentration hydrogel sheet 10 and comprises: a step (a) of cutting a continuous sheet 10 of a crosslinked high-concentration hydrogel polymer of 50 to 80 weight % in solid component concentration every 10 to 100 cm lengthwise of the continuous sheet 10 while running it lengthwise, thereby obtaining cut pieces 12; and a step (b) of continuously supplying the cut pieces 12 (obtained from the step (a)) to a continuous disintegrator 40 to continuously carry out disintegration and discharge under conditions where the supply amount of the cut pieces 12 and the disintegrating and discharging abilities of the continuous disintegrator 40 satisfy (supply amount)≦(disintegrating and discharging abilities), thereby obtaining the hydrogel particles 14.
