    • The present invention purports to provide a tape recording/reproducing apparatus capable of causing a plurality of tapes having different width respectively to travel smoothly and its cassette. The cassette positioning spring 1 gives an appropriate pressing force even in the case that the cassettes have different thicknesses, and the cassettes are respectively fixed at predetermined positions so that the lower edges of the magnetic tape 3a, 3b are positioned at the same height. The flange 9 of the guide post 12 is shifted in an up-and-down direction in response to a magnetic tape width signal detected through the cassette detecting switch 13 or the beginning edge detector 14a, or the ending edge detector 14b, so that even narrow magnetic tape 3a can travel at the predetermined height. Furthermore, by changing the inclined angle and/or the inclined direction of the movable post 10, a downward torsion force is applied to the narrow magnetic tape 3a. In this fashion, magnetic heads to be used are selected in accordance with the magnetic tape width detected by the cassette detecting switch 13 or the beginning edge and the ending edge detectors 14a, 14b.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing device according to the present invention operates with steps of moving a magnetic tape having a plurality of tracks per frame and a plurality of control signals recorded thereon, keeping count of the pulses of a frequency generator signal corresponding to the rotation of a capstan motor by a frequency generator counter, resetting the count of the frequency generator pulses by the control signal reproduced by a fixed magnetic head, detecting the track number by the control signal counter reset by a frame reference signal, controlling, at the start, the start timing on the basis of the tape stop position detected by the frequency generator pulse counter and control counter and the reference frame signal from the reference frame signal generator. The device prevents thinning of tracks at the editing point in after-break recording and the disturbance of images immediately after the start. The device does not require a special circuit or complicated software-wise processing, and provides a stabilized slow-reproduced image. Further, in a magnetic recording and reproducing device for intermittent recording, there is no danger of causing thinning to recorded tracks. Thus, a reproduced image of high quality can be obtained.

    • An optical information recording apparatus optically records digital information on a recording medium, for example, a disc, a tape and so on. The area of an optical spot cannot be made smaller than a minimum area determined by a numerical aperture of an objective lens and the wave length of a reproducing beam. Consequently, this causes a problem that the code of digital signals often fails to be discriminated in reproducing short pits and/or short pit-intervals which are recorded on the recording medium. The apparatus detects a phase difference between each edge of an input digital signal and each corresponding edge of a digital signal reproduced from the recording medium. The edges of a next input digital signal of the same code construction as that of the first input signal are corrected by a correction amount according to the above phase difference, and such operations are repeated whenever input digital signals are inputted. Consequently the apparatus can decrease errors of code discrimination to minimum and achieve high edge correction. Furthermore, since the input digital signal is delayed by a time interval between the recording by the recording head and the reproducing by the reproducing head, edge correction can be achieved with high precision.

    • An information reproducing apparatus detects a reproducing area on a disk having information recorded thereon at an approximately constant linear velocity. A reproduced signal is generated by rotating the disk mounted on a shaft of a motor, and reading out the information recorded on the rotating disk with an information reproducing head. A frequency detecting circuit generates a frequency signal indicative of the number of rotations of the motor. This frequency signal is compared with the reproduced signal to detect the number of pulses of the reproduced signal contained in one period of the frequency signal. A reproducing area on the disk is detected by comparing the detected number of pulses with a predetermined value, since this number of pulses has a value corresponding to a radial position on the disk.

    • Disclosed herein is an optical information reproducing apparatus having a phase difference tracking system which is free from an influence of a tangential phase difference of output signals from a photodetector. The photodetector comprises first through fourth photocells which are respectively disposed at first through fourth quadrants defined by a first straight line parallel to an information track image and a second straight line perpendicular to the first straight line. Output signals of the first and second photocells are delayed for a specified time by respective first and second delaying circuits. Output signals of the first delaying circuit and the third photocell are added by a first adder, and output signals of the second delaying circuit and the fourth photocell are added by a second adder. A phase comparator produces a tracking error signal from a phase difference between output signals of the first and second adders. Alternatively, a first phase comparator produces a phase difference between the output signals of the first and second photocells, and/or a second comparator produces a phase difference between the output signals of the third and fourth photocells. At least one of output signals of the first and second comparator is used for producing a tracking error signal.
