摘要： A hypodermic injection device comprising a cartridge holder having a cylindrical body open at one end and closed at the other end, the closed end being provided with an aperture, a cartridge with the holder, the cartridge including an ampoule having a cylindrical sleeve open at one end and having a necked portion at the other end to receive a hub mounting a cannula, the cannula facing the apertured end of the cylindrical body, a piston slidably carried within the sleeve adjacent the open end thereof to define a medicament chamber between the piston and cannula, fluid medicament in the medicament chamber, the piston having a concave face on the side forming one end of the medicament chamber, a spring power assembly adjacent the open end of the ampoule sleeve for moving the cartridge forward and for injecting the fluid medicament, spacer means positionable between the outer face of the piston and the adjacent spring power means to vary the position of the piston within the ampoule sleeve and thereby control the volume of the medicament chamber and the medicament carried therein, a safety assembly for controlling actuation of the spring power assembly, and a resilient sheath covering the cannula to maintain the cannula in sterile condition.

摘要： A plural injecting device comprising an outer housing assembly, a plurality of cartridge sub-assemblies, and a corresponding plurality of releasable spring sub-assemblies for effecting a forward movement of the associated hypodermic needle into the user's muscle tissue and the associated liquid medicament dosage outwardly through the needle, the sub-assemblies being mounted within the outer housing assembly so that as a result of the actuation of one of the releasable spring sub-assemblies the other releasable spring sub-assembly will be actuated so as to insure a substantially simultaneous injection of the plural dosages contained within the device. A safety arrangement in some embodiments provides for selective individual or plural dosage injection.

摘要： A stressed spring assembly for providing an operative stroke in cooperating relation with a medicament cartridge assembly of an auto-injector so as to inject a liquid medicament of the medicament cartridge assembly through a hypodermic needle of the medicament cartridge assembly into an injection site of the user. The stressed spring assembly includes a cap structure serving the plural purposes of (1) facilitating the securement of the cap structure and remainder of the auto-injection with the user's pocket, (2) alleviating the likelihood of an unwanted release of the releasable mechanism of the stressed spring assembly with a resultant unwanted movement of the hypodermic needle and an unwanted movement of the liquid medicament outwardly of the hypodermic needle by requiring two different manual movements for its removal, and (3) protecting against an unwanted contact with the hypodermic needle while in extended operative position after withdrawal from the injection site. The cap structure is formed of first and second members disposed in a fixed assembled position with respect to one another into which the first and second members are snap-fitted by a relative movement toward one another in an axial direction. Both members are of a configuration enabling them to be molded by corresponding die surfaces contained on two die members movable together and apart.

摘要： A plural dosage automatic injector comprising an elongated tubular housing assembly having side by side first and second medicament injecting assemblies each including a container, a hypodermic needle, a liquid medicament and a plunger within the forward end portion thereof and, first and second stressed spring assemblies in the rearward end portion thereof disposed in operative relation with said first and second medicament injecting assemblies for operating the latter. A manually operable safety device is provided which includes a first safety pin operable (1) when in a safety position with respect to the first spring stressed assembly to prevent actuation and release thereof and (2) when removed from its safety position to permit the actuation and release of the second stressed spring assembly. A mechanical motion transmitting mechanism is provided which is operable to transmit a movement occurring as a result of the actuation and release of the first stressed spring assembly into a secondary actuating movement operable to (1) effect a relative movement between the automatic safety pin and the second stressed spring assembly sufficient to remove the automatic safety pin from its safety position and (2) thereafter actuate and release second stressed spring assembly to operate the second medicament injecting assembly.

摘要： A dual mode automatic injector having a dual mode safety device for preventing the release of the stressed spring assembly except when it is desired to operate the medicament injecting assembly by the stressed spring assembly. The dual mode safety device comprises a first part including a pin portion disposed in a safety position extending through a central aperture in the rear wall of the housing assembly of the injector in release preventing relation with the stressed spring assembly for removal therefrom in response to a relative rearward movement with respect to the rear wall so as to permit an actuating movement to release the stressed spring assembly. The first part includes an automatic removal portion fixed to the rearward end of the pin portion. The automatic removal portion is of a size greater than the pin portion but less than the rear wall so as to present a forwardly facing surface spaced rearwardly from the rear wall operable to be engaged by a holding member while a moving member is moved forwardly into engagement with the rear wall to provide both a relative rearward removal movement for the pin portion and an actuating movement for the stressed spring assembly. The dual mode safety device also includes a separate second part and a connection between the first and second parts for (1) enabling the second part to be connected with the first part while the pin portion of the latter is in its safety position in a manual mode position wherein the first part is in rearward motion transmitting relation to the second part and (2) enabling the second part to be removed from the manual position while the pin portion of the first part is retained in its safety position. The second part includes a cap portion of a size and shape to be conveniently manually grasped by a user and moved rearwardly with respect to the housing assembly in order to effect the removal of the pin portion from its safety position when the second part is in its manual mode position.

摘要： A method of treating coronary prone patients when heart attack symptoms occur before qualified direct contact personal care can be administered to the patient which comprises providing each of a multiplicity of coronary prone patients with (1) a plurality of separate medicaments in self-administering form and (2) a device operable when disposed in operative relation to a patient to provide auditory signals indicative of the existing heart beat conditions of the patient, establishing communication by telephone between the patients experiencing heart attack symptoms and a source capable of making a qualified response based upon the existing heart beat conditions of the patient as to the medicament which will be effective when administered, disposing the device in operative relation with the patient and communicating the signals to the qualified source by means of the communication, communicating by means of the communication a qualified response from the source an indicated medicament which should be administered based upon the existing heart beat conditions of the patient communicated to the source and administering said indicated medicament to said patient at a time prior to qualified direct contact personal care for the patient, the qualified source preferably includes a plurality of individuals available at all times at specific telephones having medical records of the patients immediately available, including standing orders of each patient's doctor, equipment for converting the auditory signals communicated to conventional oscilloscope pictures and electrocardiograms and outgoing telephones for notifying the patient's doctor and next-of-kin and for dispatching an ambulance to the patient.

摘要： An autoinjector converted from an intramuscular to a subcutaneous mode of injection comprising a housing having a medicament cartridge assembly mounted within the housing means in a storage position for movement out of the storage position and a releasable stressed spring assembly for moving the medicament cartridge assembly means out of the storage position. The stressed spring assembly is operable in response to a manual actuating procedure which does not require compression of the subcutaneous tissue to effect an intramuscular mode of injection by moving the hypodermic needle of the cartridge assembly outwardly of the housing into the muscle tissue at the injection site of a user and a major portion of the liquid medicament of the cartridge assembly outwardly through the hypodermic needle into the muscle tissue of the user. An injection mode converting structure is secured in a subcutaneous mode position for converting the mode of injection effected by the stressed spring assembly from the intramuscular mode of injection to a subcutaneous mode of injection in which the needle cannot extend substantially beyond subcutaneous tissue at the injection site of the user and a major portion of the liquid medicament enters into the subcutaneous tissue.
