    • A connector for ribbon-to-wire conductors includes a clip for holding a ribbon conductor and a housing for retaining a series of wire conductors. To connect the system, a ribbon conductor containing exposed conductors on one surface of its free end is extended over the free end of an upper segment of the clip which is then inserted into the opening of the housing until a shoulder on the base of the clip engages the back wall of the housing locking the clip containing the ribbon conductor to the housing. In another embodiment of the electrical connecting system, a housing and a retainer snap together to sandwich exposed electrical contacts of two ribbon conductors and/or electrical surface contacts of a flexible or rigid circuit board. To connect the system, the ribbon conductors are placed over opposite ends of the circuit board to engage contacts thereon and the retainer is snapped to the housing. In yet another embodiment of the electrical conductor connecting system, a ribbon conductor is placed on a mandrel that has locating posts at its outer edges to align the apertures of the ribbon conductor with the apertures in the mandrel. To connect the system, a female connector/wire harness is pushed onto the mandrel so the pins of the female connector/wire harness pass through the deformable apertures in the ribbon conductor and the mandrel to provide an electrical connection between the exposed electrical contacts of the ribbon conductor and the pins of the wire conductors. In another embodiment, ribbon connectors are to be located over a mandrel and interconnected by use of a clip.

    • A molded article with multi-material or color and soft portions and a method of making the same is disclosed. The molded article comprises a multi injection substrate, and a coverstock or skin. The article is formed by a process wherein the coverstock or skin is secured within the mold, a first material is injected into a first cavity, a retractor member is moved to define a second cavity, and a second material is injected into the second cavity. The first and second materials may be different types of plastic, different colors, or combinations thereof. The first cavity is defined by two mold sections (e.g., a cavity and a core) and the retractor member. The second cavity is also defined by the two mold sections, the retractor member, and the (at least partially) hardened first material. The first material may be configured to couple to the second material by a locking interface provided by recesses and/or projections on the mold sections. A method of forming the flexible skin may include coupling a compressible material to the skin; positioning the skin and compressible material in a mold; and forming a rigid substrate around the skin and compressible material providing a first soft region wherein the compressible material is disposed between the skin and the substrate so that a first soft region is defined by the compressible material.

    • An electrification system for removable vehicle seats, includes electrical contacts located on the vehicle and electrical contacts located on the removable seat. Coupling members are provided for selectively installing the seat to the vehicle and for removing the seat to provide additional cargo space. In the preferred embodiment, the electrical contacts are arranged so that when the seat is installed, the contacts engage one another to provide power to the rear seat which in turn can be used with a variety of electrical devices, including seat heaters, seat ventilation devices, computers, entertainment or educational systems, illumination devices, and the like. In this embodiment, the electrical contacts on the vehicle are provided in the wells into which the seat coupling components fit and the contacts on the seat are located near the seat coupling members. The seat is hooked over rods within the well and rotated to its installed position. In such position, the seat is powered. There is no need to plug and unplug connectors. Alternately, the electrical contacts can be located remotely from the coupling components, as long as they come into engagement when the seat is in its installed position, or plugs which require coupling by the operator can be used.
