    • Disclosed is a lateral flow capillary device and uses thereof comprising a unipath bibulous capillary flow matrix and at least two reservoirs each in fluid communication with the capillary flow matrix wherein a reservoir contacts the capillary flow matrix through a passage having a rim pressing the matrix. The pressure that the rim applies on the matrix prevents leakage of liquids out of the capillary flow matrix at the reservoir/ matrix interface, allowing accurate sequential draining of liquid from the reservoirs. During use of the disclosed lateral flow capillary device a static interface is formed between the first liquid and the second liquid in an interface creation zone inside the capillary flow matrix wherein the first amount and second amount are such that first liquid substantially remains in the first reservoir and the second liquid substantially remains in the second reservoir subsequent to the formation of the static interface and wherein the interface begins to move only subsequent to exhaustion of a liquid from a reservoir.

    • This disclosure describes an apparatus for separation and detection of target molecules in a liquid sample containing the target molecules and non-target molecules comprising at least one absorption area, a bibulous carrier defining a first liquid transport path in fluid contact with at least one absorption area including at least one reaction area upstream of the at least one absorption area wherein the reaction area includes a capture reagent and a sample area upstream of the reaction area wherein the liquid sample when applied to sample area is transported by capillary action past the reaction area where at least a portion of the target molecules may be bound to the capture reagent to permit detection of the target molecules. The liquid sample is then transported by capillary action on to the absorption area. A second liquid transport path is in fluid communication with the reaction area of the bibulous carrier for transporting a washing solution applied to the reaction area to the at least one absorption area thereby removing interfering substances from the reaction area. Means are also provided for alternatively selecting between the first and second liquid transport path during capillary transport of the liquid sample.

    • A capturing device (20) and method for use in capturing a substance in a liquid, by feeding the liquid through a capturing device (20) including: a lateral capillary flow matrix (13) and a capturing matrix (26) in fluid communication with the lateral capillary flow matrix (13) such as to produce a lateral capillary flow in the capturing matrix having a lower velocity than that in the lateral capillary flow matrix. This produces by the Bernoulli effect, a lower pressure with respect to the two lateral flows sufficient to impart transverse oscillations to the lateral flow in the capturing matrix, such oscillations driving the liquid into the interior of the capturing matrix thereby exposing its interior, rather than merely a surface thereof, to the liquid. In the described preferred embodiments, the capturing device is a biological assay device, and each substance in the liquid to be captured in the capture zone of the capturing matrix is a biological substance.
