SOLUTION: This drum is provided with a fixed plate 1 and a movable body 2 consisting of a plurality of segments 5. Thereon a soft secondary cover 4 is put to compose an optical fiber assembly or unit 5. A plurality of units 5 are stranded around a tensile strength body 6 and then they are covered with a heat resistant thin tape 7 while the secondary covers 4 are deformed into a sector form to fill up the gap between the units 5 and between the units 5 and the body 6 and bridging them, thereby improving the accomodation density. With the covers 4 the optical fibers 1 in the unit 5 is protected from the outside.
