摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the optical cable adequate for utilization in an environment where a temp. change is drastic or other special laying environments by sealing an optical fiber into a metallic pipe in the state of an extremely low moisture content. CONSTITUTION:A metallic sheet 1 is formed to a tubular shape by a tubular shape forming part 3 and the butt end faces thereof are welded by a welding machine 4, by which the optical cable is formed together with the optical fiber 1 to be fed by an introducing pipe 6. Dried gas is admitted near to the weld zone from a gas inflow pipe 5 and the gas in the pipe is sucked through the optical fiber introducing pipe 6. The optical fiber 1 is heated by a heating part 8 provided on the optical fiber introducing pipe 6 and the moisture contained in its coating is evaporated and is discharged together with the gas to the outside of the optical fiber introducing pipe 6.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the accurate method for measuring an extra length rate of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:(A) Marks are applied on a point P and a point Q, which are separated by a specified length L, on the surface of a tubular protecting member 2 of an optical communication line. (B) The parts at the slightly outer parts of the marks at the point P and the point Q of the tubular protecting member 2 are calked, and an optical fiber 1 in the inside and the tubular protecting member 2 are compressed and fixed. (C) Marks for measuring the extra length are applied at a point R and a point S on both sided of an intended cutting position 3, and an interval D1 is measured with calipers. (D) Only the tubular protecting member 2 is cut at the intended cutting position. (E) Weak tensile force is applied to the tubular protecting member on both sides of the cut position, and contained optical fiber 1 is made to be the straight-line state. (F) An interval D2 between the point R and the point S marked on the tubular protecting member 2 is measured with the calipers. The difference between D2 and D1 is computed, and the extra length D is obtained. D/L is further computed, and the extra length rate can be measured.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent damage of an optical fiber as well as simplifying work to take out the optical fiber to the utmost by providing slits along the longitudinal direction of the inner surface of a metallic conduit, and by opening the slits by way of applying lateral pressure from the side of this metallic conduit. CONSTITUTION:In the case when lateral pressure is applied on a metallic conduit 2 in the 180 deg. direction, deformation is small up to a specific amount of pressure, but if it exceed this specific amount of pressure, slit parts come to be in an open shape. When more pressure is added, large tearing strength is concentrated at the head edge of the slits, breaking of a fatigue part is caused and the conduit is torn at this part and opened. At this time, other parts keep a structure curved inward, and accordingly an optical fiber 1 is protected inside of this curved part and is never broken. Subsequently, if the slit parts are expanded outward by inserting a proper jig in the side of the conduit opened in this way, it is possible to take out an optical fiber core from the middle way of the metallic conduit without damaging the optical fiber core.

摘要： The present invention relates to an optical fiber transmission line comprising a structure for making it possible to maintain a desirable mean transmission characteristic as a whole regardless of the fluctuation in total length caused upon cutting end portions; and an optical cable including the same. The optical fiber transmission line according to the present invention comprises a main transmission line and first and second end sections connected, respectively, to both ends of the main transmission line. As a typical configuration, the main transmission line is constituted by a single-mode optical fiber and a dispersion-compensating optical fiber. At a wavelength of 1.55 µm, the single-mode optical fiber has a positive chromatic dispersion, and the dispersion-compensating optical fiber has a negative chromatic dispersion. The respective chromatic dispersions and lengths of the single-mode optical fiber and dispersion-compensating optical fiber are set so as to lower the absolute value of mean chromatic dispersion of the main transmission line as a whole, whereas each of the first and second end sections has a chromatic dispersion substantially equal to the mean chromatic dispersion in order to suppress the influence upon the mean of the optical fiber transmission line as a whole caused by the fluctuation in length due to the cutting.

摘要： The present invention is related to a chromatic dispersion compensating module which realizes signal transmission at a high bit rate by its simple constitution, and an optical transmission system comprising the same. The chromatic dispersion compensating module according to the present invention comprises a chromatic dispersion compensator which compensates for the chromatic dispersion of an optical fiber transmission line at a predetermined wavelength, and a temperature controller which controls the temperature of the chromatic dispersion compensator in such a manner to set the chromatic dispersion of the chromatic dispersion compensator at a desired value. By this constitution, the dispersion compensation control in correspondence with the chromatic dispersion fluctuation in the optical fiber transmission line caused by the temperature fluctuation and the like is made possible. Hence, the cumulative chromatic dispersion as viewed from the entire optical fiber transmission line can be effectively reduced by its simple constitution.
