    • PURPOSE:To prevent damage of an optical fiber as well as simplifying work to take out the optical fiber to the utmost by providing slits along the longitudinal direction of the inner surface of a metallic conduit, and by opening the slits by way of applying lateral pressure from the side of this metallic conduit. CONSTITUTION:In the case when lateral pressure is applied on a metallic conduit 2 in the 180 deg. direction, deformation is small up to a specific amount of pressure, but if it exceed this specific amount of pressure, slit parts come to be in an open shape. When more pressure is added, large tearing strength is concentrated at the head edge of the slits, breaking of a fatigue part is caused and the conduit is torn at this part and opened. At this time, other parts keep a structure curved inward, and accordingly an optical fiber 1 is protected inside of this curved part and is never broken. Subsequently, if the slit parts are expanded outward by inserting a proper jig in the side of the conduit opened in this way, it is possible to take out an optical fiber core from the middle way of the metallic conduit without damaging the optical fiber core.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the unraveling of twists even if a cable is not subjected to retaining of bands, etc., at the time of cutting the cable by intertwining flat cords by aligning the twist direction when the flat cords are intertwined around a supporting wire with the releasing direction of torsional stress, thereby applying torsion on the flat cords. SOLUTION: While one or plural pieces of coated optical fibers 1a and one or plural pieces of wires 2b having torsional rigidity are paralleled and supplied to an extruder, the coated fibers and wires are coated by extrusion with coatings 2c of a flat type section consisting of a plastic resin, such as polyvinyl chloride in the production of the flat cords 2. At this time, the torsion is previously applied around the axial center on one or more wires 2b. In the case the torsion is applied on the plural wires 2b, the direction of the torsion is aligned. Steel wires, etc., are used for the wires 2b having the torsional rigidity. While the flat cords 2 having the internally existing torsional stresses are supplied from reels, the flat cords are intertwined around the supporting wire 1 without untwisting. The intertwining direction is aligned with the releasing direction of the torsional stresses.
