    • PURPOSE:To enhance the tensile strength and heat resistance of a cut wire under normal and high temperature conditions by forming the cut wire in a three layer cross-sectional structure having an outermost brass layer, a second copper layer and an austenite group stainless steel core. CONSTITUTION:A cut wire has a three layer cross-sectional structure having an outermost brass layer 3, a second copper layer 2 and an austenite group stainless steel core 1. With this arrangement, due to the contribution of the austenite group stainless steel core 1, the entire tensile strength and high temperature resistance strength of the cut wire are increased so that the wire is hard to break, and therefore, working is not interrupted while a manless process using an automatic processing machine is made to be possible. Further, the provision of the second copper layer 2 ensures a sufficient electric conductivity so that a higher capacity current may be fed. Since the wire cut has a high strength and is therefore never softened even though a high capacity current is fed, it is possible to enhance the tensile strength of the out wire, resulting in an increase in processing speed. Further, the brass layer 3 is more evaporative than the steel so that adhesive to a workpiece is decreased due to the evaporation of the brass layer, and therefore, a cut surface having a satisfactory surface roughness may be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of electric discharge machining and the working speed by using a composite wire for a cut wire having a core of steel or stainless steel of 0.05-0.4mm diameter covered with copper or copper alloy layer, occupying 30-90% of the whole sectional area of core and having 40-200kg/cm of tensile strength. CONSTITUTION:A core 2 made of steel, stainless steel or the like is plated or cladded with copper or copper alloy layer 3. And assuming that the wire diameter is 0.05-0.4mmphi, the sectional area of core 2 is SI and the sectional area of plating layer 3 is SII, SI/(SI+SII) is set to 0.3-0.9 and the tensile strength is set to 40-200kg/cm . When this is used for a cut wire, high tensile strength is ensured under room and high temperatures, necessary and sufficient conductivity for electric discharge machining is ensured by the plating layer 3, and working accuracy and speed are improved. Also the values within these range are the most suitable so that sufficient properties are not obtained in values more than or less than said ones.
