    • The present invention relates to a phosphorothionoamidate plant growth regulator of the formula:

      wherein R1 is a straight or branched propyl or butyl, R2 is a lower alkyl having up to 4 carbon atoms, X is a hydrogen atom, alkyl having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or trifluoromethyl and Y represents a hydrogen atom, alkyl having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or trifluoromethyl, and one of X and Y always represents a hydrogen atom. The present invention also relates to a method of preparing the phosphorothionoamidate by reacting a thionophosphoric acid ester amide chloride with a nitrophenol compound.
