[Also in Division E2] An attachment mounted on the mast 12 of a lift truck 10 comprises a rectangular framework 28 with horizontal extending pins 78 at the lower end thereof and vertically downwardly extending pins 66 at the upper corners thereof whereby to engage in openings in the respective corner castings 102, 98 of a container 30 to effect lifting of the same. The framework 28 is substantially equal in length and height to the container and is mounted by hooks 50, 56 to a sub-frame 15 vertically movable along the mast 12. Guides (70), Fig. 5 (not shown), at the ends of the framework 28 initially engage the container and centralize the framework with respect thereto. Alternatively in Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), an hydraulic jack (116), (124) is respectively interposed between the subframe (15) and the mast (12) or between the sub-frame and the framework (28) to effect laterally movement of the framework. The outer ends of the framework (130), (132), Fig. 13 (not shown), may be pivoted about hinge pins (134), (136) to lie alongside the lift truck for increased mobility thereof in the unloaded condition.

    • 1,133,836. Freight containers and vehicles. E. HINDIN, S. LEVITT, and A. ABOLINS. 25 Jan., 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 3336/66. Headings B7B and B7L. [Also in Divisions B8 and E2] A stressed-skin freight container 10 comprises corner members 26, each lower corner member 26 having elongated slots 70, 74 engageable respectively by a flattened head 90 on a frame 28 and a flattened head 78 or 80 of a rod 76, the heads being rotatable to secure the container to the frame 28 and to a similar container 10, and the container frame or frames 28 being securable by spring-loaded pins 62 (as described in Specification. 948,366) to slidable bogies 44, and having pivoted landing gears 38. The rod 76 includes a spring-urged member 84 rotatable with, but slidable axially between, the heads 78, 80 so that axial force on one head rotates both. The upper corner members are secured together by members 86 which are each manually turned to secure one end only, the other end being a taper fit in a corner member. Each member 90 is coupled manually by a handle or automatically by e.g. the slot 70 camming the head 90 about its axis against a spring. The kingpin 36 may pivot as described in Specification 948,366, or be rigidly mounted.
