    • 1,199,182. Stud and socket fastenings. STRICK CORP. 13 Oct., 1967 [21 Feb., 1967], No. 46904/67. Heading E2B. A corner fitting for a cargo container 10 comprises a member 26 having a central cavity 76, a lower horizontal wall 68 with a slot 88 herethrough communicating with the cavity and a vertical end wall 74 including an elongated opening 90 therethrough communicating with the cavity, the end of the slot 88 nearest the end-wall being spaced a predetermined distance from the outer face of the end wall the thickness of which exceeds that distance and the inner surface of which includes cutouts 118, 120 so that a head 112 of a vertical coupler approximating the dimensions of the slot 88 can enter therethrough and be rotated to traverse the slot in the coupling position. As shown, the container is adapted to be releasably attached to a wheeled adaptor frame (30), (32) Fig. 1 (not shown) and of known construction which carries the vertical coupler heads 112 and to which a bogie (44) can be releasably coupled. The opening 90 of the member 26 includes an inwardly tapered throat 94 and portions 98 which merge into an elongated slot 100 communicating with the cavity 76, and allows containers to be coupled end to end by means of coupling members (126), Fig. 9 (not shown) of known construction, in which each coupler is inserted through the opening 90, and a reduced portion (130) of the coupler is seated in a socket 124 of the member 26, whereafter the member 26 of the other container is engaged over a head (132) of the coupler which`is then rotated to engage the heads (128) and (132) across slots 100.

    • 1,133,836. Freight containers and vehicles. E. HINDIN, S. LEVITT, and A. ABOLINS. 25 Jan., 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 3336/66. Headings B7B and B7L. [Also in Divisions B8 and E2] A stressed-skin freight container 10 comprises corner members 26, each lower corner member 26 having elongated slots 70, 74 engageable respectively by a flattened head 90 on a frame 28 and a flattened head 78 or 80 of a rod 76, the heads being rotatable to secure the container to the frame 28 and to a similar container 10, and the container frame or frames 28 being securable by spring-loaded pins 62 (as described in Specification. 948,366) to slidable bogies 44, and having pivoted landing gears 38. The rod 76 includes a spring-urged member 84 rotatable with, but slidable axially between, the heads 78, 80 so that axial force on one head rotates both. The upper corner members are secured together by members 86 which are each manually turned to secure one end only, the other end being a taper fit in a corner member. Each member 90 is coupled manually by a handle or automatically by e.g. the slot 70 camming the head 90 about its axis against a spring. The kingpin 36 may pivot as described in Specification 948,366, or be rigidly mounted.
