    • PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as a material, etc., for medicines, cosmetics, foods and drinks and feeds, etc., without carrying out the neutralizing or desalting by heat-treating a ganglioside GD3 in a neutral region, then converting the ganglioside GD3 in a raw material containing a lipid into a ganglioside GM3 . CONSTITUTION: A cream containing >=10wt.% lipid based on the solid or a raw material derived from the cream is heat-treated in a neutral region of pH 6-8 at a reactional temperature within the range of 60-140 deg.C to convert a ganglioside GD3 in the raw material into a ganglioside GM3 . The resultant reactional solution is then evaporated to dryness under a reduced pressure and the prepared white powder is treated by an anion exchange chromatography and subsequently by a silica gel chromatography to recover the reactional product. Thereby, the objective ganglioside GM3 which is a receptor for influenza or Newcastle disease virus, having inhibiting actions on proliferation of keratinocytes, suppressing actions on the angiogenesis and differentiating actions on leukocytes and useful as a material for medicines, cosmetics, foods and drinks and feeds, etc., is obtained on an industrial scale.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a new glycophospholipid useful as e.g. a biochemical reagent, raw material for medicines or foods, surfactant, by extracting the lipid fraction of cow milk or a dairy product with an organic solvent, etc., followed by purifying the fraction through a silica gel chromatography. CONSTITUTION:This new glycophospholipid of the formula (R1 and R2 are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon; A is an N-glycoside-bound saccharide) useful as e.g. a biochemical reagent, raw material for medicines or foods, and as a surfactant, is obtained by extracting the lipid fraction of cow milk or a dairy product with a chloroform-methanol-(water) mixed liquid followed by purifying the extract-contg. liquid by acetone washing and silica gel chromatography. This glycophospholipid has the following characteristics: decomposable by phospholipase C; manifesting color reaction of phospholipid by Dittmer-Lester test; liberating the saccharide by beta-galactosidase; manifesting saccharide color reaction by orcinol sulfate or a diphenylamine-aniline reagent; developing color by a ninhydrin reagent; and containing in one molecule galactose, ethanolamine, glycerol, phosphate group and a 12-20C fatty acid.
