    • A joint for insulated pipeline sections having a tubular sleeve (10) with its ends (19) shrunk down toward and sealed to the outer surfaces of the casings (16) of the pipeline sections (12, 13). The interior of the sleeve is fitted with insulation material (25), usually a rigid polyurethane foam. The sleeve (10) is secured against axial movement relative to the pipeline sections (12, 13) and the sleeve (10) and its securement provide sufficient rigidity that tensile and compressive forces acting on one pipeline (12) section are transmitted through the joint to the other pipeline section (13). With this arrangement, the joint moves in unison with the pipeline (12, 13) when the latter undergoes axial movement, and risk of dislodging of the sleeve (10) and rupture of the seal is reduced.
