摘要： A heat shrinkable wrap-around sleeve (1) adapted to be applied to an article in wrapping relation thereto comprising a sheet (2) of dimensionally heat unstable flexible material having longitudinally spaced end portions (2a, 2b) capable of being brought into overlapping relation when the sheet is applied to the article, the material having been stretched in the longitudinal direction from an original heat stable form to a dimensionally heat unstable form capable of moving in the direction of its original form by the application of heat alone, and a closure strip (3) having one edge disposed on one of the end portions of said sheet and welded thereto, said strip being of sufficient width that when the end portions of the sheet are brought together and the end portion having the closure strip is overlapped on the opposite end portion, the closure strip can be applied on the underlapping end portion and welded thereto by direct heating applied thereon, said closure strip differing from said sheet material in at least one characteristic selected from (a) dimensional heat stability; (b) color; (c) chemical composition; (d) degree of crosslinking; (e) thickness; and (f) method by which it has been crosslinked.

摘要： A longitudinally heat shrinkable closure sheet (11) has a hold-down adhesive portion (14) adjacent each longitudinal end for application on the exposed end portions (16a,16b) a heat shrinkable wrap-around sleeve (16) applied around a pipe or other article to be covered. Heat is applied to the closure sheet (11) in order to weld the adhesive free portion of the underside of the closure sheet (11) to the end portions of wrap-around sleeve (16). The initial shrinkage of the closure sheet (11) between the hold-down adhesive portions draws it tightly into contact with the upper side of the end portions (16a,16b).Shearing forces are applied between the closure sheet (11) and the end portions (16a, 16b) firstly as the closure sheet (11) contracts relative to the end portions (16a,16b), and secondly, as the sleeve (16) shrinks, develops hoop stress and stretches the closure sheet (11), and a high strength fusion bond is achieved between the closure sheet (11) and sleeve (16).

摘要： A joint for insulated pipeline sections having a tubular sleeve (10) with its ends (19) shrunk down toward and sealed to the outer surfaces of the casings (16) of the pipeline sections (12, 13). The interior of the sleeve is fitted with insulation material (25), usually a rigid polyurethane foam. The sleeve (10) is secured against axial movement relative to the pipeline sections (12, 13) and the sleeve (10) and its securement provide sufficient rigidity that tensile and compressive forces acting on one pipeline (12) section are transmitted through the joint to the other pipeline section (13). With this arrangement, the joint moves in unison with the pipeline (12, 13) when the latter undergoes axial movement, and risk of dislodging of the sleeve (10) and rupture of the seal is reduced.

摘要： @ A heat shrinkable covering in the form of a sheet 1 which is heat shrinkable in a longitudinal direction, and a stiffening member 2, 3 connected at each of two longitudinally spaced transversely extending superimposable zones of the sheet. One stiffening member 2 has holes and the other 3 studs 11 in the form of arm portions which are insertable through the holes to secure the stiffening members together. The arm portions can be flattened down onto the outside of the covering to retain the stiffening members together while reducing risk of the studs interfering with items such as cables adjacent the covered article. Preferably the studs 11 have a resiliently compressible head portion which snap fits into holes formed through the sheet adjacent the holes in the stiffening member to facilitate locating the overlapped zones of the sheet relative to one another. In use, the sheet 1 is wrapped around an article 18, the stiffening members are engaged together, and the sheet is then heat shrunk. The stiffening members support the juxtaposed edges of the sheet at points intermediate the coupling points, thus resisting the tendency for the edges of the sheet to separate as a result of the hoop stresses generated in the sheet on shrinking.
