    • A magnetic disk device having a floating-type magnetic head (14), for use with a disk-shaped recording medium (11) having a sliding area (E) for the floating-type magnetic head (14) formed outside a recording area (D). The length in the disk radial direction of a suspension supporting the floating-type magnetic head is varied depending on individual magnetic disk devices. In another arrangement, a control means is provided for setting two reference values so that a radial position of the floating-type magnetic head detected by a detection section is compared with these reference values, and for alternating one of the preset reference values to the other reference value upon receiving a rotation stop signal. In still another arrangement, control means is provided, whereby a radial position for sliding of the floating-type magnetic head is randomly varied within the sliding area. According to these arrangements, since the radial position for sliding of the floating-type magnetic head is varied within the sliding area without being located at the same position, abrasion within the sliding area can be dispersed. As a result, it becomes possible to extend the longevities of the floating-type magnetic head and the recording medium.

    • An optical recording element according to the present invention comprising: (i) a transparent substrate (1) through which light passes; (ii) a transparent low-resistance layer (2) having a specific resistance so as to prevent the adhesion of dust to the surface of the element caused by a static charge, the layer being formed on the surface, on which a light beam is incident, of the transparent substrate; and (iii) an optical thin film (3) composed of at least one layer, formed on the other surface of the transparent substrate so as to transmit light beams used for recording, erasing and playback, and reflect lights which have wavelengths different from the wavelength of the above light beams and are within a specified visible region of the spectrum. With this arrangement, lights within a specified visible region of the spectrum are reflected so that the element appears to be colored according to the wavelengths of the reflected lights. Also, a problem often found in a conventional optical recording element having a transparent substrate of a resin material that the surface of the element is hardened by a light beam, can be solved. Even if a static charge is generated on the surface of such an element, the conductive transparent low-resistance substrate can eliminate the static charge outward whereby a static charge is less likely to be accumulated and the surface can be kept clean in order to improve the reliability.

    • A magneto-optical recording and reproducing device (12) comprising an optical head (10) provided with a laser beam source (2), focusing a laser beam onto a magneto-optical recording medium (1) with a magnetic substance film (1b) of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, a magnetic coil (7) generating an alternating magnetic field according to data to be recorded, and forming positive magnetized parts being magnetized in a predetermined direction, and negative magnetized parts being magnetized in the opposite direction of said positive magnetized parts on said magnetic substance film of said recording medium, recording and reproducing data by existence or absence of said negative magnetized parts, characterized in that there is provided a laser beam output level control means (11) controlling intensity of said laser beam at forming said positive magnetized parts more strongly than forming said negative magnetized parts, so that the width of said positive magnetized parts becomes wider than said negative magnetized parts. Hence, this device can prevent the causes of false signals and incorrect detection influenced by a residual negative magnetized domain which is a part of the negative magnetized domain formed according to old data, when record­ed data according to the existence or absence of the nega­tive magnetized parts, that is, according to the existence or absence, length, position et cetera of the negative mag­netized domain comprising of the negative magnetized parts, is reproduced, consequently the reliability on recording and reproducing data can be improved.
