    • A magneto-optical recording/reproducing device which records information by irradiating a light beam (1) of constant intensity on a magneto-optical recording medium while simultaneously applying a magnetic field thereon through a recording magnetic head (5); and which reproduces the recorded information through a reproducing magnetic head (7). The magneto-optical recording medium has a magnetic film (4) formed on a translucent substrate (3) and the magnetic field applied through the recording magnetic head (5) reverses in response to the information to be recorded. The recording magnetic head (5) and the reproducing magnetic head (7) are integrally provided on a single magnetic core (10) in order to set their positions easily with respect to each other. By making a magnetic core end-face (12) of the reproducing magnetic head smaller than a light beam spot (14), information recorded on areas smaller than the light beam spot can be reproduced. A large reproduced output may be achieved by using a magneto-optical recording medium which has a soft magnetic material layer made of soft magnetic material provided between the substrate and the magnetic film.

    • An optical recording element according to the present invention comprising: (i) a transparent substrate (1) through which light passes; (ii) a transparent low-resistance layer (2) having a specific resistance so as to prevent the adhesion of dust to the surface of the element caused by a static charge, the layer being formed on the surface, on which a light beam is incident, of the transparent substrate; and (iii) an optical thin film (3) composed of at least one layer, formed on the other surface of the transparent substrate so as to transmit light beams used for recording, erasing and playback, and reflect lights which have wavelengths different from the wavelength of the above light beams and are within a specified visible region of the spectrum. With this arrangement, lights within a specified visible region of the spectrum are reflected so that the element appears to be colored according to the wavelengths of the reflected lights. Also, a problem often found in a conventional optical recording element having a transparent substrate of a resin material that the surface of the element is hardened by a light beam, can be solved. Even if a static charge is generated on the surface of such an element, the conductive transparent low-resistance substrate can eliminate the static charge outward whereby a static charge is less likely to be accumulated and the surface can be kept clean in order to improve the reliability.

    • A disk recording and reproducing device records and reproduces information on and from a magneto-optical disk (1) having absolute addresses and including an information recording area wherein pieces of information entered from external devices are recorded and a (Table of contents) TOC area wherein additional information with respect to each piece of the information recorded in the information recording area is recorded. The device includes operation keys for being operated by the user, a TOC memory for storing therein read/write control information for desired pieces of information entered through the operation keys, an optical head (3) and a magnetic coil (18) for recording in the TOC area the contents stored in the TOC memory as additional information and a controller (6) for controlling read/write operation to the disk according to the read/write control information. With the arrangement, the user can recognize necessary/unnecessary information and defective parts in the disk, and therefore make effective use thereof as well as maintaining secrecy of the information. A disk recording and reproducing device also includes a peak level detection circuit for detecting peak levels of music information, a TOC memory for storing therein peak level information with respect to the peak levels, and an optical head and a magnetic coil for recording in the TOC area the contents stored in the TOC memory as additional information, thereby permitting the user to readily perform preferable copying operation. A disk recording and reproducing device further comprises an optical head and a magnetic coil whereby an end mark is recorded in the rear end part of the additional information, and when a new piece of information is recorded in the information recording area, additional information with respect to the new piece of information is overwritten to add onto an end mark already recorded in the TOC area, and an end mark is newly recorded in a rear end part of the overwritten additional information. Thus, required reproducing time for the TOC area can be shortened. A disk recording and reproducing device includes an optical head for applying a light beam to the disk in recording information, operation keys, memory means wherein an absolute address corresponding to the time when the operation key is operated to initiate recording is stored, and optical head drive control means for moving the optical head back to a vicinity of a position indicated by the absolute address stored in the memory means and for keeping the optical head in a stand-by state by making it perform track-jumps at a position slightly before the position indicated by the absolute address, when re-recording operation of information is performed. Therefore, in re-recording information, the optical head is readily accessed to a vicinity of a recording start position of the former information.
