摘要： A method for implanting a prosthetic spinal disc nucleus in an intervertebral disc nucleus space includes: (a) providing a disc nucleus implant instrument having a passageway for passing a prosthetic disc nucleus, and a dilator for dilating an opening in a disc annulus; (b) providing a prosthetic disc nucleus having a first configuration and a second configuration, where the first configuration presents a first cross-sectional size and said second configuration presents a second cross-sectional size, with the first cross-sectional size being larger than the second cross-sectional size; (c) making a hole in the annulus of a disc receiving the prosthetic disc nucleus, with the hole having an undilated size that is smaller than the first cross-sectional size of said prosthetic disc nucleus; (d) providing the prosthetic disc nucleus in its second configuration in the passageway of said disc nucleus implant instrument; (e) introducing the dilator of the disc nucleus implant instrument into the hole in the disc annulus while said hole is not fully dilated; (f) causing the dilator to dilate the hole in the disc annulus; (g) passing the prosthetic disc nucleus through the dilator and into the disc nucleus space while the disc annulus is dilated and the prosthetic disc nucleus is in its second configuration; (h) withdrawing the disc nucleus implant instrument and allowing the disc annulus to return to a size smaller that its dilated size; and (i) causing or allowing the prosthetic disc nucleus to assume its first configuration. The disc nucleus implant instrument may also include an activator for causing the dilator to dilate.

摘要： Abstract A system and method is provided for replacing the functions of a facet joint between a superior vertebra and an inferior vertebra without necessarily requiring an anatomical implant. The method includes: providing one or more flexible posterior devices to replace main functions of the facet jointin that the flexible device applies a distracting force between the vertebra; and adapting a first one of the one or more posterior devices for a first attachment to a first pedicle, and a second attachment to a second pedicle. Further disclosed are devices comprising two posterior devices, one compression-resistant and one expansion-resistant.Also disclosed is a rod for a posterior spinal stabiliser comprising two elastic members, connected by a joint to replace the function of the facet joint.

摘要： A device for stabilizing at least a portion of the spinal column, including a longitudinal member sized to span a distance between at least two vertebral bodies (VU, VL) and being at least partially formed of a shape-memory material exhibiting pseudoelastic characteristics at about human body temperature. A number of bone anchors (24) are used to secure the longitudinal member is reformed from an initial configuration to a different configuration in response to the imposition of stress caused by relative displacement between the vertebral bodies (VU, VL),and recovers toward the initial configuration when the stress is removed to thereby provide flexible stabilization to the spinal column. In one embodiment, the longitudinal member is a plate defining a number of alternating ridges and grooves having an initial amplitude corresponding to the initial configuration and a different amplitude corresponding to the different configuration.
