    • A multi-piece vertebral attachment device with a first member, one or more second members, and optionally, a removable plug. The first member may have a fixed, threaded exterior surface to engage a vertebral member. The first member may further include a hollow, threaded interior. The hollow interior may be positioned inside the threaded exterior surface and at least partly positioned within the vertebral member when the first member is inserted in the vertebral member. The second member may have an outer diameter sized to fit within the hollow interior of the first member. A spinal implant device may be coupled to the second member. The second member may be installed during a separate surgical procedure from that of the first. The removable plug may be installed in the first member until the second member is installed. Revision may be performed by removing the second member and inserting a third member.

    • A spinal construct (16) and method for implantation is provided which utilizes a spinal implant (17) adapted for insertion within an intervertebral space between an adjacent pair of vertebral bodies (11, 12), and an elongate member (26) adapted for anchoring to the adjacent vertebral bodies (11, 12). The spinal implant (17) defines a first transverse dimension (A) and a different second transverse dimension (B), and is initially inserted into the intervertebral space while in a first operational configuration wherein the first transverse dimension (A) extends along the height of the intervertebral space. The elongate member (26) is anchored to the vertebral bodies (11, 12) to establish and maintain a select height of the intervertebral space. The spinal implant (17) is then rotated to a second operational configuration wherein the second transverse dimension (B) extends along the height of the intervertebral space. The elongate member (26) serves to maintain the select height of the intervertebral space to provide a controlled amount of compression onto the spinal implant (17) and/or a bone growth promoting material contained therein. The elongate member (26) also serves to resist tensile loads during extensional movement of the vertebral bodies (11, 12) to maintain the vertebral endplates in intimate contact with the spinal implant (17).
