    • There is described a method of processing control messages received by a wireless communication network from a wireless communication device. The method comprises: monitoring received control messages sent by the wireless communication device to identify control messages conveying information indicating whether or not the wireless communication device has a handover capability associated with performing a handover between the packet-switched and circuit-switched domains; for any such identified control message which indicates that the corresponding wireless communication device does not have said handover capability, modifying the control message to indicate that said corresponding wireless communication device does have said handover capability and forwarding the modified control message to the core network; and storing data indicative of whether or not the wireless communication device has said handover capability.

    • A method and apparatus for providing access of a user equipment to a data network via a wireless communication system is provided. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method of providing access of a user equipment to a data network via a wireless communication system, the user equipment having an associated subscription profile, the wireless communication system utilising access point identifiers for associating subscribers with specific packet data networks, said subscription profile including at least one access point identifier, the method comprises; setting subscriber profile parameter data in said subscription profile; receiving a first message sent from said user equipment requesting connection using a first access point identifier; determining on the basis of said subscription profile whether or not said user equipment may be connected using the first access point identifier; and dependent on the determination being negative and dependent on the subscriber profile parameter data being set, providing access to a packet data network using a different access point identifier.

    • The present invention provides a method and system for handover of a video call from a packet switched network to a circuit switched network in a single radio environment. In one embodiment, a need to perform a video single radio voice call continuity (vSRVCC) handover from a packet switched network to a circuit switched network is detected during a video call session in the packet switched network by a network entity associated with the packet switched network. Accordingly, a vSRVCC handover request is sent to a network entity associated with the circuit switched network for performing a vSRVCC handover of the video call session where the handover request comprises vSRVCC capabilities of a user equipment (UE) associated with the video call session. Then, a vSRVCC handover procedure for handover of the video call session from the packet switched network to the circuit switched network is performed based on the vSRVCC capabilities of the UE.

    • A method and apparatus are described for controlling transmission of user data between a user equipment and a packet data via a packet switched data network, such as an Evolved Packet System (EPS). An association is formed between the user equipment and one or more gateways in the packet switched data network. In some embodiments, one or more messages are sent to the user equipment indicating a capability of the one or more gateways to inhibit transmission of user data towards the user equipment; an indication is received from the user equipment to inhibit transmission of user data to the user equipment from the first gateway, and, in response, transmission of user data towards the user from at least one of the gateways is inhibited. In some embodiments, in response to receipt of an indication from the user equipment to inhibit transmission of data towards the user equipment, a message is sent to the user equipment indicating parameters defining transmission characteristics of user data that may be transmitted between at least one of the gateways and the user equipment, and the gateways control transmission of data towards the user equipment in accordance with the sent parameters. This enables transmission of user data between a user equipment and a packet data network to be controlled.

As a result, the user equipment may receive the communication via the cellular wireless network without the need for the user equipment to be continuously camped on the cellular wireless network, so that the cellular wireless network may reduce provisioning of network resources and so reduce power consumption.
