    • A child-resistant, wick-based liquid emanation system includes a container (30) which is capable of containing liquid and has an opening (36). A wick (50) is partially disposed within the container (30) and extends through the opening (36). A hollow overcap (101) encases the extended portion of the wick and has a closed, separable tip (100) and an open base (200) attached to cover the opening. The system is activated by separating the tip from the overcap. A retainer may be provided for obstructing complete removal of the wick from the container through the overcap after the tip is separated from the overcap. The retainer can include a shoulder (300) disposed in the overcap (101) between the tip (100) and the base (200) to retain the wick (50) toward the base of the overcap. Alternatively, a protrusion (53) from the wick can engage an inner surface (225) of the overcap or the container. In this case, the overcap can have a frangible portion facilitating separation of the tip, and the wick can extend past the frangible portion toward the tip.

    • A portable vapor-dispensing device is disclosed. The device comprises a housing (110), a fluid reservoir (200) for containing an evaporable fluid substance ("F"), a heating means, and a plume-emitting chimney (240). The heating means comprises a heating element (380) and a fluid passageway (320) which communicates with the fluid reservoir (200) and the plume-emitting chimney (240) and which provides a fluid-evaporation zone for the evaporable fluid substance ("F"). The fluid passageway (320) is disposed within the plume-emitting chimney (240). The heating element (380) is externally carried by the fluid passageway (320) and is disposed about the fluid-evaporation zone. The heating element, when energized, causes heat to pass radially through the sidewall of the fluid passageway (320), which in turn causes evaporation of the evaporable fluid substance ("F") from the fluid-evaporation zone. The chimney (240) emits a plume of the thus-evaporated substance, thereby providing an envelope of vapor about the portable device.

    • An insect bait station (10) for offering a liquid insect bait to targeted insects and a method of offering liquid insect bait to targeted insects. The insect bait station (10) includes a hollow body having a base (10) and a cover (12) joined in liquid-tight relation. The base (10) has a floor (18) and the cover (12) has a stage (24) positioned generally parallel to and above the floor (18) of the base (10). The cover (12) has an ascending ramp (26), that extends upwardly from the cover rim (22) to a cover mount (28), and a descending ramps (30) that extends downwardly from the cover mount (28) to the stage (24). Interiorly facing surfaces of the floor and cover define a holding chamber wherein liquid insect bait may be onfined. Spill-resistant access means provides a targeted insect located on the stage access to liquid insect bait confined within the holding chamber. Preferably, the spill-resistant access means includes a capillary liquid transport means for transporting the liquid insect bait upwardly from the floor (18) of the base (10) to a location where it is accessible to a targeted insect. The method includes the steps of providing an insect bait station made in accordance with the specification and placing it in a location frequented by the targeted insects.
