摘要： PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition containing a specific 5-membered triterpene compound, exhibiting specific antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, and effective to prevent dental caries.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition contains the compound of formula (R

2 O; R
2 and R
3 are CH
3 or COOH; R
4 is H, CH
3 , COOH or COOCH
3 ; R
5 and R
6 are H, CH
3 or OH; A is two H or O), e.g. oleanolic acid, ursonic acid, etc. as essential component. The compound of formula has specific antibacterial activity against S.Mutans and/or an activity to inhibit the adhesion of insoluble glucan produced by S.Mutans and its extoenzyme to the surface of the tooth. The use of a compound having both activities is preferable. The content of the compound in the composition is preferably ≥0.001%(W/V), especially ≥0.01%(W/V).
