    • A method is disclosed for detecting an extreme value position of a movable part by means of a position detecting sensor. The method is especially suitable for detecting the idle position of the throttle flap of an internal combustion engine with the aid of a potentiometer. In this method, a stored value (extreme value) corresponding to the extreme position is corrected upon the detection of deviating measured values, provided that the deviating measured values lie within a correction range around the extreme value. The range of movement of the movable part has to lie within the range coverable by the position sensor. After a predetermined number of identical measured values are sensed in the correction range during an operating cycle, such a measured value is stored in memory as the new extreme value. For dynamic adaptation, this next extreme value is modified cyclically, preferably prior to each operating cycle, by a predetermined value away from the outermost position. While detecting the extreme position with a high accuracy, the method of the invention has a very small hysteresis, with the full function capability being restored after a short period, even under irregular operating conditions.

    • A method and device for detecting the rotation direction of a piston engine, internal combustion engine or piston compressor. The piston engine includes at least one cylinder, a piston movable back and forth in the cylinder, a cylinder chamber formed inside the cylinder which is delimited by an inner cylinder wall and the piston, an inlet channel opening into the cylinder chamber via at least one inlet valve, an outlet channel opening into the cylinder chamber via at least one outlet valve, and at least one triggerable throttling device situated in the inlet channel. To detect the rotation direction in a reliable, timely, and simple manner, the pressure prevailing in the inlet channel is measured when a rotary motion is detected, compared with a predefinable threshold value, and the rotation direction is determined based on the comparison result, the throttling device being closed at least for the pressure measurement time.

    • A method is disclosed for adjusting the amount of fuel to be supplied to an internal combustion engine in the case of non-idling operation even when the load signal fails. A plurality of emergency injection times are used which are modified with the manipulated variable of a lambda controller so that an injection time period is associated with each emergency injection time. The injection time periods are arranged such that they cover essentially all the injection times which can occur during the operation of an internal combustion engine. In the method, the lambda control remains switched on and the point at which control is to occur is found by running through the injection time periods. An arrangement for carrying out the method is also disclosed.
