    • Early evaluation testing of a subsurface formation is provided by monitoring pressure fall-off in the formation. This is accomplished by providing a column of fluid in the well having an overbalanced, hydrostatic pressure at the subsurface formation greater than a natural formation pressure of the subsurface formation. A testing string is run into the well, and the testing string includes a packer, a pressure monitor and a closure tool arranged to close a bore of the testing string. The formation is shut in by setting the packer and closing the bore of the testing string with the closure tool and thereby initially trapping the overbalanced hydrostatic pressure of the column of fluid in the well below the packer. Then the pressure in the well below the packer is monitored as it falls off toward the natural formation pressure. This data can be extrapolated to estimate the natural formation pressure based upon a relatively short actual test interval on the order of ten to fifteen minutes.

    • A wellbore fluid treatment apparatus capable of being actuated by a sealing device. The apparatus includes a casing including a bore and a casing port opened through the wall of the casing. The apparatus also includes a sleeve located within the casing bore. The sleeve includes a sleeve port opened through the wall of the sleeve and a baffle seat forming an inner flow area and configured to receive the sealing device. The sleeve is moveable by the sealing device between a closed position preventing fluid flow from the bore through the casing port and an open position allowing fluid flow from the bore through the sleeve port and casing port. The apparatus also includes a reverse cement shoe attached to the casing. The reverse cement shoe has a valve that allows the casing to be cemented by displacing cement only on the outside of the casing.

    • A method of verifying swelling of a swellable material in a well can include connecting a transmitter to a sensor which senses a parameter indicative of degree of swelling of the swellable material, and conveying a receiver into an interior of a tubular string. The transmitter transmits to the receiver an indication of the degree of swelling of the swellable material. A packer swelling verification system can include a swellable material which swells in a well, and a well tool which is conveyed to the packer in the well. The well tool receives an indication of a degree of swelling of the swellable material. A method of verifying whether a swellable material has swollen in a well can include positioning a conductor proximate the swellable material, whereby the conductor parts in response to swelling of the swellable material, and detecting whether the conductor has parted.
