The subsystem includes: (1) a buffer depth index detection circuit that detects learned values of buffer depth indices associated with the bonded call and stored at a first location and (2) a buffer depth index transmission circuit, coupled to the buffer depth index detection circuit, that transmits the learned values to a second location accessible by the third endpoint to allow the bonded call to be transferred to the third endpoint without requiring the third endpoint to relearn the values.

    • For use in a communications network having a source and destination endpoint that employs a video transmission protocol in which the destination endpoint of a video stream receives a release command from the source endpoint of the video stream to begin displaying the video stream, the destination endpoint normally receiving the release command only after completion of a capabilities negotiation between the destination endpoint and the source endpoint, a system for, and method of, multicasting the video stream from the source endpoint to at least one destination endpoint. The method includes the steps of: (1) beginning the multicasting of the video stream, (2) ignoring any capabilities messages received from the at least one destination endpoint during the multicasting of the video stream and (3) issuing periodic release commands during the multicasting of the video stream irrespective of receipt times of the ignored capabilities messages, the at least one destination endpoint thereby commanded to begin to display the video stream following a simulation of the capabilities negotiation.

    • A system (10) includes a network (12) of the type used to interconnect computers, and a plurality of real telephones (21-26) which are each coupled to the network. A gateway unit (36) is coupled to the network and also to some other communication media, such as trunk lines (37) of a public switching telephone network (38). A virtual phone server (32) provides a virtual simulation of one or more telephones, for purposes of providing the system with the capability to function as an inbound call center and/or an outbound call center. A call manager server (31) provides overall system control relative to the gateway unit, the virtual phone server and the telephones. Several computers (16-19) may also optionally communicate with each other over the network.

    • A localized digital telephone network may automatically contact a centralized server to identify telephone numbers that connect the local network to a public switched telephone network (PSTN). The server may be a remote identification server that receives calls from local networks, and informs the local networks of the telephone numbers being used by the local networks. The server may capture caller-ID information of the incoming calls, and may return the calls with the captured information encoded in caller-ID signals of the return calls. A method for automated detection may include acts in which a local network generates an outgoing call to a server on a communications port, and then detects an incoming call from the server on the communications port. The local network may determine a caller identifier from the incoming call, and may map the caller identifier to the communications port.
