    • A visual display dependent upon the use of thermochromic materials is formed as a thin structure on a substrate sheet with a vapor deposited conductive film heater applied thereto. The current is applied to the heater through parallel opposed buss bars so that the heater heats uniformly. A non-thermochromic image layer is mounted on the substrate, with one or more thermochromic image layers thereover. One thermochromic image layer covers a first portion of a visible display area of the substrate, while a second thermochromic layer covers a second portion of the visible display area, with the first and second portions overlapping slightly along contiguous edges thereof. As the display is heated and cooled, the thermochromic materials of the thermochromic image layers reach their respective transition temperatures to change state from opaque to colorless or vice-versa, or from one color to another. The visual display is mounted within an enclosure to protect the display from environmental interference and thereby insure the desired control of heating of the display, as well as cooling thereof.

    • Systems and methods consistent with the present invention may be used as part of determining whether to chargeback a purchase transaction amount to a merchant. To this end, the system may heuristically analyze purchase transaction data to determine which transactions to analyze for chargeback processing. For instance, the system may identify purchase transactions that are likely to qualify for a chargeback. For the identified purchase transactions, the system may then determine an expected value for each transaction in terms of received revenue from chargeback processing and the costs for performing a chargeback. Using the expected values for this transaction data, the system may then prioritize which purchase transactions to review for chargeback to a respective merchant.

    • In one embodiment, a node comprises at least one processor core and a plurality of coherence units. The processor core is configured to generate an address to access a memory location. The address maps to a first coherence plane of a plurality of coherence planes. Coherence activity is performed within each coherence plane independent of other coherence planes, and a mapping of the address space to the coherence planes is independent of a physical location of the addressed memory in a distributed system memory. Each coherence unit corresponds to a respective coherence plane and is configured to manage coherency for the node and for the respective coherence plane. The coherence units operate independent of each other, and a first coherence unit corresponding to the first coherence plane is coupled to receive the address if external coherency activity is needed to complete the access to the memory location.

    • A system and method of modular image downloading (MINDS) from a network for configuring computers, or computer-based devices. The program images typically comprise a foundation image (operating system) and application module images. The system is configured as software which executes in response to a tree of actions defined in configuration data and not embedded within the executable of the MINDS program. The action tree can be controlled by the user interface, started, paused, terminated, stepped forward or backward, and so forth. The executable operates on the action tree and need not be re-compiled for each action tree change, the modules for the action trees are dynamically linked prior to execution. The action tree approach allows the user to readily change, add, or delete actions, or entire action trees from the system without the need of recoding or additional program testing.
