    • A dual-coil outwardly-opening fuel injector including a fuel tube connected at a lower end to a lower injector housing. Within the fuel tube are a lower (opening) solenoid pole piece, a specially-formed armature, and an upper (closing) solenoid pole piece. A seat assembly including an injector nozzle, swirler, and valve seat are adjustably threaded into the lower housing. A pintle assembly, including a solid pintle portion supporting a valve head and a tubular portion welded thereto, is axially disposed within the fuel tube and is welded to the armature which is spaced from the lower pole piece by a distance equal to the opening stroke of the valve. A return spring adjustment mechanism disposed on the upper pole piece engages the upper end of the pintle assembly for varying the closing force of the return spring. Opening and closing solenoid preassemblies are mounted external to the fuel tube for magnetically engaging the pole pieces and armature within in known fashion.

    • A protection device for a lower guide system of a fuel injector includes a debris shield deflecting a fuel flow around a lower guide system and a particle trap collecting particles contained within the fuel flow. By deflecting the fuel flow towards flow passages around the lower guide system, the particles contained in the fuel flow are prevented from entering a lower guide area, such as a radial gap between the stationary components of the lower guide system and the moving component of the valve assembly. The particle trap may be defined in a lower housing of the fuel injector or may be integrated in the debris shield. The debris shield may be integral with a valve assembly or may be a separate component. A permeable area may be integrated in the debris shield to enable partial flow therethrough.

The first conveyor includes a discharge end and a first permeable conveyor belt. The second conveyor, in series with the first conveyor, includes an intake end and a second permeable conveyor belt. The first and second conveyors are configured to independently accelerate and decelerate. The suction subsystem, which includes an intake portion proximate to the discharge end and the intake end, is configured, arranged and disposed to generate suction through the first permeable conveyor belt at a first region proximate to the discharge end and through the second permeable conveyor belt at a second region proximate to the intake end. The sensor is configured, arranged and disposed to sense a leading edge of the cluster as the cluster is conveyed by the system.
