    • A fuel injector, e.g., a fuel injector protruding directly into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, includes an energizable actuator, a valve-closure member able to be moved by the actuator, a secure valve seat, with which the valve-closure member cooperates to open and close the valve, a fuel outlet formed in a downstream spray-discharge region and by at least one outlet opening situated downstream from valve seat, and a dead volume formed downstream from valve seat and upstream from the spray-discharge region having at least one outlet opening. A surface of valve-closure member bordering the dead volume has a surface structure having at least several pores with a surface roughness of at least 25 &mgr;m for gas accumulation.

    • A dual-coil outwardly-opening fuel injector including a fuel tube connected at a lower end to a lower injector housing. Within the fuel tube are a lower (opening) solenoid pole piece, a specially-formed armature, and an upper (closing) solenoid pole piece. A seat assembly including an injector nozzle, swirler, and valve seat are adjustably threaded into the lower housing. A pintle assembly, including a solid pintle portion supporting a valve head and a tubular portion welded thereto, is axially disposed within the fuel tube and is welded to the armature which is spaced from the lower pole piece by a distance equal to the opening stroke of the valve. A return spring adjustment mechanism disposed on the upper pole piece engages the upper end of the pintle assembly for varying the closing force of the return spring. Opening and closing solenoid preassemblies are mounted external to the fuel tube for magnetically engaging the pole pieces and armature within in known fashion.

    • An airbag inflation nozzle assembly for fluidic mating with an inflation valve assembly, including an inflation valve stem, upon an inflatable cargo airbag comprises a housing, and an inflation nozzle member, having an inflation nozzle tip, pivotally mounted within the housing between a first position at which the inflation nozzle tip is fluidically disengaged from the inflation valve assembly, and a second position at which the inflation nozzle tip is fluidically engaged with the inflation valve assembly. A transversely oriented camming button is movably mounted upon the housing between an UNLOCKED position so as to permit the inflation nozzle member to be moved to the first fluidically disengaged position with respect to the valve assembly, and a LOCKED position which forces the inflation nozzle member to be moved to the second fluidically engaged position with respect to the valve assembly. The housing further comprises a pair of oppositely disposed side rails upon which a valve body portion of the valve assembly can be slidably supported as the housing of the inflation nozzle assembly is being operatively mated with the valve assembly, and an end wall flange portion for engaging a valve body member of the valve assembly during operative mounting of the housing upon the valve assembly so as to ensure coaxial alignment of the inflation nozzle tip with the inflation valve stem.

    • A one touch valve for activating fluid flow between an inlet conduit and an outlet conduit is disclosed. The valve has a flow cylinder defining an inflow chamber in fluid communication with the inlet conduit and an outflow chamber in fluid communication with the outlet conduit. The flow cylinder includes an end plate and an intermediate plate having a center collar with an aperture. A flexible diaphragm is provided with a sealing surface in contact with the collar to create a seal. The diaphragm has an edge coupled to the intermediate plate and a small diameter hole providing fluid contact between the inflow chamber and an intermediate chamber which is defined by the intermediate plate of the flow cylinder. A plunger is placed on the diaphragm to create a seal with the opposite surface of the diaphragm from the sealing surface. A shaft has one end connected to the plunger and extends through the aperture of the diaphragm. A spring is located between the end plate of the flow cylinder and the contact surface of the plunger. Pushing the shaft causes the plunger to separate from the diaphragm creating fluid pressure on the diaphragm contact surface to push the plunger toward the end plate end, compressing the spring, and causing the diaphragm to separate from the collar causing fluid to flow from the inflow chamber through the aperture to the outflow chamber. Releasing the shaft causes the spring to decompress, forcing the plunger and diaphragm away from the end plate re-establishing the seal between the sealing surface with the collar preventing fluid flow from the intermediate chamber to the outflow chamber.

    • The present invention provides a solenoid actuated fuel injector. The fuel injector includes a housing having a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and a fuel passageway extending along a longitudinal axis. The fuel injector additionally includes a valve body having an inlet portion and an armature guide eyelet that is disposed in the inlet portion of the valve body within the fuel passageway. A closure assembly includes an upper bearing guide fixedly connected to a stem portion. The upper bearing guide includes a bearing portion and a contacting portion. The armature guide eyelet includes a first portion circumscribing the upper bearing guide portion, and a second portion engaging the upper bearing guide contacting portion. Methods of mechanically insuring a repeatable stroke of a closure assembly and operating a closure assembly within a solenoid actuated fuel injector are also provided.
