    • A toner comprises a polyester binder resin which does not contain a tetrahydrofuran-insoluble compound, a colorant, and a charge controlling agent. The binder has molecular weight distribution peak at 3,000-9,000. The charge controller has units derived from sulfonate group-containing monomers, electron acceptor group-containing aromatic monomers , and (meth)acrylic ester monomers. A toner comprises: (I) a binder resin which does not contain a tetrahydrofuran-insoluble compound, and comprises a polyester resin which: (a) contains = 4 wt.% of components having a molecular weight of = 500; and (b) has a molecular weight distribution peak at 3,000-9,000 (according to gel permeation chromatography); (II) a colorant; and (III) a charge controlling agent comprising a resin containing units obtained from: (a) a sulfonate group-containing monomer (IIIa); (b) an aromatic monomer having an electron acceptor group (IIIb); and (c) an acrylic ester and/or a methacrylic ester monomer (IIIc). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a one or two-component developer comprising the toner and optionally a carrier; (2) a container containing the developer; (3) an image forming method comprising: (i) forming an electrostatic latent image on a substrate; (ii) developing the image with the developer (iii) transferring the toner image onto a receiving material; and (iv) fixing the toner image on the material with application of heat; (4) a color image forming method comprising: (i) developing electrostatic latent images formed on several substrates with several of the color developers, each comprising a different color toner; and (ii) transferring the color toner images onto a receiving material one at a time with a transfer means, while pressing the receiving material against each of the substrates; (5) an image forming apparatus comprising: (i) an irradiator for irradiating a substrate means to form an electrostatic latent; (ii) an image developer to develop the image with a developer to form a toner image; (iii) a transfer means to transfer the toner image onto a receiving material; (iv) a fixing means to fix the toner image on the receiving material upon application of heat; and (v) a container to contain the developer; and (6) a color image forming apparatus comprising: (i) an image developer comprising several developing portions each comprising a different color developer comprising a toner, configured to develop electrostatic latent images formed on several substrates with the color developers to form a different color toner image on each of the substrates; and (ii) a transfer means to transfer the color toner images onto a receiving material sequentially while pressing the receiving material against each of the substrates.

The transfer device (10) includes a first transfer element (10a) that moves and receives the visual image from the image carrier (8) on a first surface of the first transfer element (10a), a second transfer element (3) provided opposite to the first surface of the first transfer element (10a) to pinch and convey the recording medium (S) through a transfer nip part formed between the first surface of the first transfer element (10a) and the second transfer element (3), and a facing member (2,12,22,32) provided on a second surface of the first transfer element (10a) opposite to the first surface of the first transfer element (10a). The facing member (2,12,22,32) faces the second transfer element (3) via the first transfer element (10a). The transfer device (10) further includes a constant-current power supply (4) that applies an electric voltage to a voltage application electrode (2a,12a,22a,32a) such that the visual image on the first surface of the first transfer element (10a) is transferred to the recording medium (S). The voltage application electrode is included in the facing member or in the second transfer element. A constant-current controller (11) controls a current which flows due to the electric voltage, to be constant.
