    • A method and apparatus for providing a virtual SIM is provided. According to an example embodiment, a first device sends a message to a base station in a telecommunications network to request a virtual SIM for use by a second device. After receiving the request from the first device, the base station generates the virtual SIM and creates a mapping among the first device's SIM memory device, the virtual SIM, and identification information for the second device. The base station transfers the virtual SIM to the second device either directly, or the base station may transfer the virtual SIM to the first device for transmission to the second device via device-to-device technologies. The second device then may establish a connection with the base station using the virtual SIM for both uplink and downlink communications.

    • An access point (VSIM-AP) facilitates user communications using virtual subscriber identity module (VSIM) information and stores VSIM information for each of a plurality of mobile user devices. The VSIM-AP arbitrates among communication requests by mobile user devices using priority information stored with their VSIM information. Then the VSIM-AP enables communications with a selected one of the plurality of mobile user devices utilizing the respective VSIM information. In non-limiting embodiments the arbitrating is also among an ongoing communication with another of the mobile user devices. At least arbitrating among the communication requests follows priority rules: first by user priority then by service priority then by the order in which the VSIM-AP received the communication requests. The enabled communications are with a cellular base station with which the selected mobile user device uses its VSIM. The VSIM-AP enables quick switching by providing cellular network operation information stored with the VSIM information.

    • A sensor system collects mobility parameters which are then associated by a wireless access node/base station with an identifier of a radio receiver or group of radio receivers affixed to a moving platform such as a high speed train. The wireless access node/base station uses the mobility parameters it receives and also trajectory information to estimate a position of the radio receiver or of a group of radio receivers, and beamforms to the radio receiver or group at the estimated position. In more particular embodiments the access node determines the group of radio receivers by correlating an operational status of a plurality of radio receivers; and the operational status comprises a database which tracks in real time the identifiers and times of last and next event sensor systems and of a last base station prior to a most recent handover.

    • A method is provided for allocation of cellular channel resources and/or shared ISM band resources to device-to-device (D2D) user equipment (UE) pairs/clusters in mobile communications. A network entity makes assignments of cellular channel physical resource blocks to D2D UE based on interference measurements performed either by the network entity or reported to it by UE. Semi-persistent channel allocations are transmitted periodically to the UE on a downlink control channel. Channel specific allocations are transmitted to and received by D2D UE in each transmission time interval. Where the cellular band has insufficient resources to allocate to D2D UE, the network entity may determine portions of the shared ISM band that may be assignable to D2D UE and transmit channel allocations in the ISM band to the UE. An indicator bit may be added to the allocation transmissions to indicate whether there has been a change to the allocations since the previous transmission.

The method may include receiving, at a terminal apparatus, a missing sensor notification message from an access point for a cellular network. The missing sensor notification message may indicate a sensor node for which a device needs to be selected to serve as a gateway to the cellular network. The method may further include determining whether any the indicated sensor node is within a signaling range of a wireless sensor network signaling technology. The method may additionally include, in an instance in which it is determined that the indicated sensor node is within signaling range, causing a gateway serving request to be sent to the access point requesting that the terminal apparatus be selected to serve as a gateway between the sensor node and the cellular network.
