    • A method and apparatus for providing a high capacity radio communication network. The network employs a low frequency reuse technique between cells. The reuse technique renders the network interference limited, for example, by providing all cells in the network with the ability to allocate traffic channels on all frequencies assigned to the network for traffic channels. The reuse technique employed is Fractional Load Planning that can be extended to extreme capacities through Channel Allocation Tiering (CHAT). The radio resources in each cell are allocated using a Service Based Power Setting (SBPS) technique such that network capacity is maximized while allowing each service group to achieve its required quality of service (QoS) requirements. To limit the interference, thus maintaining/controlling the required QoS level for already admitted users, in the network a Power Based Admission Control (PBAC) technique is employed to control the admission of new users into the network.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a mechanism for handling a handover in a more efficient way. The invention relates to a method in a mobility controller (180) in a radio access network for preparing a handover. The method comprises the following steps to be taken during data transmission between a mobile terminal (140) and a source base station (120), before the handover: Sending a request to a candidate base station (122), which request aims at measuring and reporting timing alignment to be used by the mobile terminal (140) when communicating with the destination base station (122) after the handover, if the candidate base station becomes the destination base station (122) after the handover; receiving a report from the destination base station (122) comprising said requested timing alignment; and when the destination base station (122) is selected among the at least one candidate base stations, sending a message to the mobile terminal (140) to use said timing alignment received from the destination base station (122) when communicating with the destination base station (122) after the handover.

    • An apparatus and method for recursive filtering of time discrete measurement data relating to a measurable time-varying attribute to generate an estimated magnitude for the attribute at a particular time instant. Each measurement has an associated reliability indicator representing a relative reliability of the measurement. Using the individual reliability indicators and a time-weighted filtered reliability indicator for a prior time instant, a filtered reliability indicator for the current time instant is generated. The filtered reliability indicator for the current time instant is then used to reliability-weight a weighted average of the plurality of measurements and to reliability-weight a time-weighted estimated magnitude for the prior time instant. The weighted values are then used to generate an estimated magnitude of the time-varying attribute for the current time instant.
