    • A system and method for managing captured network traffic data is provided. The invention comprises a plurality of capture agents, each being configured to capture the network traffic associated with one or more applications. Each application is associated with one or more capture agents according to an application profile that is stored and maintained in a capture server. When analysis of an application's network traffic is required, the capture server contacts the corresponding capture agents according to the application profile. The capture server then effects the identification and archiving of the network traffic that corresponds to a user-defined capture condition. A database at the capture server maintains a record that associates the corresponding network traffic with the user-defined capture condition such that the corresponding network traffic can later be retrieved and analyzed using an analysis engine.

    • A system includes a brokering arrangement for exchanging information between software modules including notifiers which detect triggering events having corresponding event classes and observers interested in receiving notification of the happenings of the triggering events. The system includes a broker, observers, and notifiers. The software modules are created in discrete addressable locations of a single computer's memory or the memories of multiple computers interconnected through a network. The broker maintains one or more look-up tables having the identities and memory or network locations of all notifier and observer software modules existing in the system, as well as the classes of events with which the modules are concerned. Upon creation of a new notifier or subscription to the broker by an observer module, the broker adds the newly-created module to the one or more look-up tables, which the broker then scans to match notifiers and observers having common event classes. If the broker determines that a notifier and observer share an event class, the broker instructs the notifier to send notification of the happening of the triggering event directly to the observer. The broker, then assists notifiers and observers in establishing direct callback interfaces, but is not involved in later communications between the notifiers and observers after the callback interfaces are established. As new modules are created, and as old modules are removed and/or re-created, the look-up tables are updated and the observers are notified accordingly, thereby permitting so-called “hot swapping” of software components.

    • A database having information sought by a consumer, a database containing consumer attributes, and a database of advertising messages are made responsive to telephone calls placed to an interactive voice response (IVR) system. Alternatively, the databases can be linked to a web site responsive to consumer input. Either system can deliver the advertising messages to the consumer. The database of consumer attributes contains information already known about the consumer that can be used to decide on which advertising message to deliver. The consumer initiates activity by calling the interactive voice response system or accessing the web site. Software identifies the consumer via the consumer-inputted identification and delivers an advertising message likely appeal to the consumer. The advertising message can include an offer to purchase a product or service. The offer can be taken during the advertising period and recorded so as to be sent to a sponsor. The system then disseminates information sought by the customer, such as student grades. Alternatively, software resident at the Web site reads the identity of the customer who is accessing the Web site and recognizes and ascribes various attributes to the customer. The customer has the opportunity to either view the information or, preferably, interactively respond to the advertisement or offer by seeking additional advertisements or by placing an order for the products or services of the sponsoring vendor.
