    • A centrifuge conveyor (14) is provided with improved hard surfacing wherein unitary subassemblies of backing tiles (26X) and wear-resistant members (28X)are welded by the backing tile (26X) to the conveyor (14) A subassembly is made unitary by the interengagement of the wear-resistant member (28X) to an undercut groove in the backing tile (26X) and by bonding with a heat reactive adhesive (300) or grout applied to the interengaging parts. Each fragile wear-resistant member is braced against deflection at its outer portion through its backing tile to the conveyor. The preferred embodiment employs a plurality of wear-resistant members per backing tile, each such member being accurately pressed to its intricate, interlocking shape from sintered tungsten carbide.

    • A centrifuge which rotates about a vertical axis, has a driving hub, a feed cone supported on and surrounding the hub, and a bowl with a separation chamber therein. The improvement includes structure which supports the bowl and feed cone on the hub, while simultaneously closing the bottom of the feed cone and forming a plurality of enclosed passageways which extend from the bottom interior of the cone into the separation chamber; the passageways are symmetrically arranged around the axis, and mounted so as to rotate with the bowl. During operation of the centrifuge, a feed mixture is introduced into the top of the rotating feed cone, the mixture descending to the bottom interior thereof; from the bottom interior of the feed cone, the mixture enters the enclosed passageways where it is tangentially accelerated while being fed into the separation chamber.

    • A nozzle assembly has a retainer sleeve, a nozzle holder, and a nozzle. The sleeve is pushed into an opening in the bowl from the interior thereof, and is keyed into place. The holder is pushed into the sleeve from the exterior of the bowl, and is locked into place (by rotation) by a bayonet type connection. A protrusion on the interior of the sleeve serves to stop the rotation of the holder in extreme positions, i.e., a fully locked position and a fully unlocked position. The nozzle is threadably mounted in the outer end of the holder, and is arranged so as to be aligned in a predetermined direction with respect to the bowl when the holder is in its fully locked position. An annular boss is formed on the holder between the bayonet connection and the nozzle, the boss being slidably mounted within the sleeve and serving to guide and support the holder while simultaneously shielding the bayonet connection.
