摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain in a short time the titled resin of good fluidity by reaction on heating in the presence of acid catalyst between a condensed polycyclic aromatic compound and crosslinking agent comprising a second aromatic compound having at least two hydroxymethyl groups under increased pressure sufficient for suppressing expansion of the reaction mixture. CONSTITUTION:A mixture F made up of (A) a raw material consisting mainly of condensed polycyclic aromatic compound (e.g., naphthalene), (B) a crosslinking agent consisting mainly of a second aromatic compound having at least two hydroxymethyl or halomethyl groups (e.g., p-xylylene glycol), and (C) an acid catalyst (e.g., p-toluenesulfonic acid) is fed to a reaction vessel 1 followed by reaction on heating with the inner space of the reaction vessel 1 pressurized by a circulating inert gas G of increased pressure through a line 22 to suppress expansion of the reaction mixture F, thus obtaining the objective thermosetting resin.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cured product for e.g., metal composite materials free from metal corrosion, by heating in the presence of acid catalyst a condensed polycyclic aromatic compound and a second aromatic compound containing two or more hydroxymethyl groups followed by molding together with an organic carboxylic acid and postcuring at elevated temperatures. CONSTITUTION:(A) A raw material consisting mainly of condensed polycyclic aromatic compound (e.g., pyrene) and (B) a crosslinking agent consisting mainly of a second aromatic compound having at least two hydroxymethyl groups (e.g., p-xylylene glycol) are allowed to react in the presence of a small amount of an acid catalyst (e.g., p-toluenesulfonic acid) by heating to form a non-acidic thermosetting resin. Thence, the resultant resin is molded on heating together with an organic carboxylic acid (e.g., trichloroacetic acid) followed by postcuring the resulting cured product at a temperature higher than the above molding temperature to decompose or volatilize the organic carboxylic acid, thus obtaining the objective cured product.

Said aromatic raw material can be prepared, for example, by chloromethylation of a raw material comprising condensed polycyclic aromatic compound such as naphthalene with a chloromethylating agent, a combination of formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. Said crosslinking agent is pref. di(hydroxymethyl)benzene.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain at low cost the titled resin in an industrially advantageous manner without using any special crosslinking agent, by reaction on heating in the presence of acid catalyst, of a chloromethylated or hydroxymethylated product of the raw material consisting mainly of condensed polycyclic aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:First, a raw material consisting mainly of condensed polycyclic aromatic compound (pref., naphthalene) is chloromethylated or hydroxymethylated to form a chloromethylated or hydroxymethylated product with the number of chloromethyl group or hydroxymethyl group >=1.1 on average, respectively. Thence, this product is allowed to react on heating to pref. 100-200 deg.C in the presence of an acid catalyst such as toluenesulfonic acid, thus obtaining the objective resin. For the chloromethylating agent, a combination of formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid is preferably used; and, said hydroxymethylated product can be prepared, in general, by hydrolysis of the chloromethylated product in its aqueous alkali solution.

The crosslinking agent of the latter formula is preferably 2,5-di(chloromethyl)-p- xylene. The conventional agent to be used is e.g., p-xylylene glycol.

CONSTITUTION:A starting material (A) (e.g., coal tar) obtained from petroleum or coal and based on a condensed polycyclic aromatic compound having 2-5 benzene nuclei, having an aromatic carbon fraction >=0.6, an aromatic ring hydrogen content >=30% and an MW >=200, is reacted with a crosslinking agent (B) [e.g., di(hydroxymethyl)benzene] based on an aromatic compound having at least two hydroxymethyl or halomethyl group in a molar ratio of 0.2-10 at 70-300 deg.C and an autogenous pressure in the presence of 1-50wt%, based on components A and B, acid catalyst (C) (e.g., sulfuric acid) in 0.5-10pts.wt., per pt.wt. components A and B, water solvent (D) until the yield reaches 60% of the theoretical value, and the reaction is stopped by cooling the reaction mixture to 70 deg.C or below.

摘要： PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance, by dissolving crude crystals containing the titled substance in p-xylene to recrystallize the titled substance, separating the crystals into purified crystals and mother liquor, separating part of the p-xylene and recirculating the residual mother liquor to a chloromethylation step. CONSTITUTION:p-Xylene is reacted with formaldehyde and a chlorinating agent in the presence of a catalyst to give crude crystals containing monochloromethylated, i-di(chloromethylated) and poly(chloromethylated) p- xylenes in addition to the titled substance. The resultant crystals are then dissolved in p-xylene and recrystallized to afford the purified crystals of the titled substance. The mother liquor is then separated and concentrated so that the total amount of p-xylene and monochloromethyl-p-xylene may be about equal to the amount of the p-xylene in the initial charging raw material. The p-xylene is partially removed to recirculate the resultant mother liquor as the charging raw material to the next step. As described above, the raw material can be saved by recirculating the mother liquor containing a considerable amount of the monochloromethylated p-xylene.

The gas is made to contact first with the dewaxing catalyst layer 4 and then to the desulfurization catalyst layer 5. Water is supplied through the line 6 to the whole reaction product at the outlet of the reactor 3, and the mixture is separated by the liquid-gas separation layer into the light gas rich in hydrogen, a liquid product, and water. The liquid product is supplied through the line 13 to the fractionating column, and water is discharged from the system through the line 8. A part of the light gas rich in hydrogen is extracted from the line 12, dehydrated in the dehydrator 9, passed through the line 10, mixed with high-purity hydrogen gas supplied through the line 11, and recycled to the line 1 at the inlet of the furnace 2.
