When the tank 1 is of a large size more than about 50m in diameter, natural frequency of sloshing is generally less than 0.2Hz, so that the interposition of the slide means 4 makes the response to such sloshing difficult.

The water tank 20 is filled with water. Vibration is applied with the device 18, and waves are generated. At this time, the amount of displacement is operated based on the detected value of a wave height meter 50. The side wall is moved inward and outward with the control system of the jack 40. The change in water level is absorbed with the displacement of the side wall. Therefore, the enlargement of the apparatus can be avoided.
