    • In an interchangeable lens including an optical system adjustable for focusing and adapted to be detachably mounted on a camera body which is provided with focus detection means for detecting an amount of defocus of an object image formed by the optical system, and drive means for driving the optical system for the focus adjustment thereof in accordance with the detected amount of defocus. The interchangeable lens comprises, inter alia, a code plate for producing a plurality of digital photographic distance signals representing given discrete photographic distances of the optical system in accordance with the adjustment of the optical system for focusing. Circuit means output a predetermined one of a plurality of inputs, the plurality of outputs including a plurality of conversion coefficients needed for converting the detected amount of defocus into the amount of drive to be effected by the driving means, the conversion coefficients being intrinsic to the interchangeable lens and having values depending upon the discrete photographic distances of the optical system represented by the digital photographic distance signals, respectively. The digital photographic distance signals are applied to the circuit means as the predetermined input to cause the circuit means to output one of the conversion coefficients as the predetermined output, the value of which depends upon the photographic distance of the optical system represented by the one digital photographic distance signal being produced. The output conversion coefficient are transmitted to the camera body.

    • According to this invention, a camera system has a camera body and a first and second lenses exchangeable to the camera body. The first lens comprises a device for outputting first data which indicates the first lens belongs to a first lens type. The second lens comprises a device for outputting second data which indicates the second lens belongs to a second lens type and third data with respect to the characteristic of the second lens. The camera body comprises: a device for inputting the data from the outputting device of the first or second lens attached to the camera body, a device for discriminating the lens type based on whether the inputted data is the first or second data, a device for storing data with respect to the characteristic of the lens belonging to the first lens type, and a processing device for carrying out a process based on the third data when the discriminating device judges the attached lens belongs to the second lens type and controlling it based on the stored data in the storing device when the discriminating device judges the attached lens belongs to the first lens type. The discriminating means judges the attached lens belongs to the first lens type.

    • The automatic focusing system disclosed is characterized that the focusing condition of an objective lens to be focused is repeatedly detected with the objective lens being moved, and that defocus signals, each representing a defocus direction and a defocus amount of the lens according to the focusing condition upon each detection, are processed in a predetermined statistic method to produce a final signal. The final signal is effected for controlling the axial position of the objective lens to lead the lens to its infocus position. Therefore, the automatic focusing system according to the present invention achieves the high accuracy of focusing and quickness thereof.
