    • A hydraulic control device for an anti-skid brake system for a vehicle, including a solenoid-operated directional control valve for communication of a pressure chamber in a hydraulic actuator, selectively with a hydraulic power source and a reservoir, and a solenoid-operated flow control valve disposed between the directional control valve and one of the pressure chamber, hydraulic power source and reservoir, the hydraulic control device being operated to effect rapid and slow rise and fall of a pressure in the hydraulic actuator, in response to a slip ratio of a wheel of the vehicle. The flow control valve comprises a flow restrictor which permits a restricted flow of a fluid through the valve even when its valving member is seated on a valve seat in which a valve hole is open. The flow restrictor is provided in one of various forms except an ordinary orifice with a small diameter. The flow restrictor may be a groove formed in an end face of a valving member opposite to the valve seat, a rough or ragged surface of the valve seat or valving member, or a porous structure formed on the valving member so as to contact the valve seat. Alternatively, the flow restrictor may be formed by a porous structure which fills a hole formed in parallel with the valve hole which is open in the valve seat.

    • An antiskid apparatus for an automotive vehicle having a master cylinder connected to wheel cylinders via respective brake lines, and a pressure regulating valve in a power hydraulic pressure line connecting an accumulator with a directional control valve, which is installed in a power hydraulic pressure line connecting the accumulator with a hydraulic pressure control piston. When the brake is applied, the pressure regulating valve is operable, in dependence upon master cylinder hydraulic pressure delivered by each wheel cylinder, to reduce power hydraulic pressure supplied by the accumulator to a hydraulic pressure higher, by a predetermined amount, than the master cylinder hydraulic pressure, and to deliver this reduced hydraulic pressure to each directional control valve. When the brake is not applied, the pressure regulating valve cuts off communication between the accumulator and each directional control valve and brings the hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic pressure line leading to a fluid chamber of the control piston to a value not higher than a set value through the directional control valve. Thus, the fluid chamber is supplied with hydraulic pressure reduced to a predetermined value to suppress a pressure change that occurs in the fluid chamber when the apparatus is operated, thereby reducing shock and noise and making it easier to control the operation of the apparatus.

    • An anti-skid apparatus for installation in a vehicle braking system having a regulator valve for producing a hydraulic power pressure in accordance with a hydraulic braking pressure from a master cylinder. A control cylinder is disposed in a hydraulic circuit connecting the master cylinder to a wheel brake cylinder, and comprises a cylinder body having a cylinder bore defined therein and a piston axially slidably disposed within the cylinder bore. Disposed in the control cylinder is a normally open cut-off valve which normally permits the flow of the hydraulic braking pressure from the master cylinder into the pressure chamber and blocks the flow of the hydraulic braking pressure when the piston moves to an extent more than a predetermined distance from its initial position for decreasing the volume of the pressure chamber. And, a changeover valve is disposed between the regulator valve and the control cylinder, and applies the hydraulic power pressure to the piston or discharges it from the control cylinder.

    • An anti-lock brake system for a wheel wherein a fluid pressure is applied to a wheel cylinder, through a solenoid-operated valve device and a flow control device. Upon detection of locking of the wheel, the valve device is brought into an anti-lock state in which the valve device is alternately placed in its pressure-increase and pressure-decrease positions. The flow control device is normally placed in a first mode for a sufficient flow of the fluid into the wheel cylinder, and is operated in a second mode with the valve device placed in the anti-lock state. In the second mode, the flow control device decreases the rate of fluid flow to the wheel cylinder, with an increase in a difference between the power source pressure and the wheel cylinder pressure. An assisting device is provided for enabling the flow control device to adequaely effect the first mode of operation for at least a period between commencement of brake application and commencement of anti-lock operation of the valve device. The assisting device further assists the flow control device to adequately effect the second mode of operation at least while the valve device is in the pressure-increase position during the anti-lock operation of the valve decive.

Also included is an electric motor, a pump driven by the electric motor, an accumulator adapted to accumulate fluid pressure generated by the pump, a control piston reciprocating under the fluid pressure to open and close the first valve, a second valve adapted to supply the fluid pressure to the control piston upon normal rolling of wheels so as to move the control piston to a non-operative position while excluding the fluid pressure from the control piston when the wheels are likely to lock up, and a third valve having first and second valves and controlling the fluid pressure to be supplied to a hydraulic chamber in response to depression and release of a brake pedal. In this arrangement, a relief valve is provided in a seat member of the first valve so that when the fluid pressure exceeds a predetermined upper limit, it is opened to introduce hydraulic fluid to a drain line through the second valve.
